LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The Northwest Missouri State University outdoor track and field teams started the season strong with two event titles and a school record broken at the Spire Distance Carnival hosted by the University of Saint Mary.
 
Aziz Mohammed started off the season with a bang by breaking the school record in the In the men's 1,500-meter run and claiming the event crown. Mohammed won the race in a close finish, beating Pittsburg State junior, Dylan Sprecker by a single millisecond. The race also featured strong performances from Maxime Touron who set the third-fastest time in school history and Riley Witt who grabbed his first provisional time of the season.
 
Kiki Witt found similar success in the women's 3000-meter run by securing the event title and earning a Division II provisional time.

SPIRE DISTANCE CARNIVAL MEET RESULTS
(M) 800-meter Run: Sophomore Andres Kemper crossed the finish line with a time of 1:58.72 placing 21st.
 
(M) 1500-meter Run: Senior Aziz Mohammed captured the title in a tight race with a Division II provisional time of 3:40.69 – breaking the school record in the men's 1500-meter run. Next up for the 'Cats was Maxime Touron who set a Div. II provisional time of 3:43.97, earning him second, and giving him the new third-fastest time in the school record books. Touron set a new personal best. Following behind Touron was Riley Witt who secured fifth overall with a provisional time of 3:47.98
 
(W) 3000-meter run: Senior Kiki Witt tallied a first-place finish with a Division II provisional time of 10:48.15 – giving her the fourth-fastest time in school history.

Northwest will head off to St. Louis, Mo. to participate in the two-day WashU Distance Carnival hosted by Washington University on Mar. 26 and Mar. 27.
