O'FALLON, Ill. - The No. 50-ranked Northwest Missouri State University men's tennis team came from behind to secure a 4-3 dual win Friday afternoon against the McKendree Bearcats.
Northwest moved above the .500Â mark at 5-4. McKendree dropped to 6-9 overall.
McKendree gained an early edge by taking two of the three doubles' matches for a 1-0 advantage. Northwest's
Bernardo Henriques and
Jules Subra tallied a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles against McKendree's Riccardo Ercolani and Felix Diedrichs.
Northwest faced a 3-2 deficit with two singles' matches remaining. Head coach
Mark Rosewell's squad battled back from the brink of defeat to earn the win with victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
Subra gained a 6-4, 7-5 against Ercolani to knot the dual at 3-3.
Northwest's
Andres Rodrigues dropped the first set to McKendree's Aimar Oregui, 6-2. Rodrigues dug deep and leveled the match at a set each with a 7-5 win in the second. Rodrigues pulled out a 6-3 victory in the third set to clinch the 4-3 dual victory for Northwest. It is Rodrigues's first dual win of his Bearcat career.
