Record Breaking 4x400 Relay Highlights Strong MIAA Championship Finish for Bearcats

PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Northwest Missouri State indoor track and field teams secured four individual titles, one school record, and one MIAA Championship meet record on the final day of the 2026 MIAA Indoor Championships hosted Pittsburg State University.
 
Both the Bearcat men (115 points) and women (106 points) claimed runner-up team finishes. The men secured second place for the second consecutive season, while the women extended their streak with a fifth straight runner-up finish.
 
In the women's 4x400-meter relay, Northwest claimed the title while breaking the MIAA Championship meet record. The quartet of Melanie Roland, Marie Dea, Jadyn Barnes, and Kennedi Cline also recorded the third-fastest time in school history.
 
Cline added to her impressive day by competing in both the women's 200-meter and 400-meter dashes, earning podium finishes in each event. Roland found similar success, capturing the overall event crown in the 400-meter dash.
 
On the men's side, sophomore Frank Sparks contributed a runner-up podium finish for the Bearcats while breaking the school record in the 60-meter hurdles.

Running Events
(M) 60-meter Dash: Senior Dominic Sedlacek captured second place once again with a Div. II provisional time of time of 6.63. Kyle Emerson put up a provisional time of 6.82 and placed eighth overall.
 
(W) 60-meter Dash: Krysta Abel earned second place overall in the prelims with a Div. II provisional time of 7.52. Jaurdin Mallory recorded a time of 7.62, securing fifth. Campbell Barta improved her prelim placement, earning sixth with a time of 7.64
 
(M) 60-meter Hurdles: Sophomore Frank Sparks set the new school record in the men's 60-meter hurdles, crossing the line with a new Div. II provisional mark of 7.77 and securing second in the event. Moses Koroma placed fourth, improving from his prelim time to a provisional nod of 7.89.
 
(W) 60-meter Hurdles: Freshman Josie McGraw crossed the finish line with a time of 9.02, capturing eighth. 

(M) 200m Dash: Freshman Kyle Emerson set the new fourth-fastest time in school history with a new Div. II provisional time of 21.38, placing fourth overall. 
 
(W) 200m Dash: Kennedi Cline secured third overall with a provisional mark of 24.16.
 
(M) 400-meter Dash: Truman Hare claimed a provisional time of 47.05 and placed fourth overall. Logan Arellano improved upon his prelim time with a new Div II provisional mark of 47.24 – beating out his previous fourth-fastest time in school history. 

(W) 400-meter Dash: Melanie Roland captured the MIAA crown in the women's 400-meter dash with a provisional time of 54.18. Just a little under a second behind was Kennedi Cline with a Div. II provisional time of 54.72, securing second place. 
 
(M) 600-yard Dash: Josh Fraker claimed the new second-fastest 600-yard time in the Northwest history, crossing the line with a time of 1:09.99, placing second overall. Fellow freshman Breck Brown placed fourth for the 'Cats with a time of 1:10.75 – bumping him to the third-fastest time in Northwest's history. Jess Cornick improved upon his prelims time, coming in at 1:12.09 and earning sixth.
 
(W) 600-yard Dash: Anjelena Carder placed second overall with a time of 1:22.16 – setting the new second fastest time at Northwest. Kendall Tietjen captured fourth place for the 'Cats with a time of 1:23.66 – tying her own ninth-fastest time in school history

(M) 800-meter Run: Riley Witt claimed second place once again, clocking a provisional time of 1:50.29 – tying his own second-fastest school record time. Christian Lanphier claimed third and set the new sixth-fastest school history with a new Div. II provisional mark of 1:51.25. Bret Beard (1:51.93), and Charlie Kinslow (1:52.90) both finished back-to-back, placing fifth and sixth respectively. Beard beat his own ninth fastest time in the record books at Northwest. 
 
(W) 800-meter Run: Marie Dea secured the MIAA title in the women's 800-meter run with a provisional time of 2:09.91. Jadyn Barnes placed fourth with a time of 2:12.87 along with Lydia McGlocklin who claimed sixth with a time of 2:13.69.

(M) 1-mile Run: Senior Aziz Mohammed placed third overall with a time of 4:11.03 followed right behind by senior Riley Witt with time of 4:11.88 earning him fourth. Rounding out the top three for the Bearcats was junior Grayson Tapp who secured sixth with a time of 4:13.06.
 
(W) 1-mile Run: Lydia McGlocklin earned fourth in the event with a time of 4:57.00.
 
(M) 3000-meter Run: Barnabe Gabillet clocked a time of 8:21.64 securing him fourth overall. Following right behind Gabillet was Aziz Mohammed who secured fifth place with a time of 8:24.52.
 
(W) 3000-meter Run: Kiki Witt posted a time of 9:56.51 which earned her fifth place. Both Mayson Hartley (10:19.56) and Olivia Bakker (10:42.76) set new personal bests in the women's 3000-meter, placing 17th and 24th respectively. 

(M) 4x400-meter Relay: Northwest's 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of Christian Lanphier, Breck Brown, Dylan Masters, and Josh Fraker placed seventh overall with a time of 3:14.55. Their time ranks as the fourth-fastest Northwest time this season.
 
(W) 4x400-meter Relay: Melanie Roland, Marie Dea, Jadyn Barnes, and Kennedi Cline captured the MIAA crown in the women's 4x400-meter relay, posting a Division II provisional time of 3:38.89. Their mark ranks as the fastest time this season, the third-fastest in school history, and broke the MIAA Championship meet record. 
 
Field Events
(M) Triple Jump: Sophomore David Parker II secured a fourth-place finish with a new Div. II provisional jump of 14.95m (49-0.50) – setting the second-farthest triple jump in school history. Freshman Christian Farrow leapt 13.94m (45-8.75), earning him 11th place along with sophomore Jonathan Hedrick who secured 16th with a jump of 13.67m (44-10.25). All three athletes set new personal bests.

(W) Triple Jump: Freshman Abigail Troncin earned tenth, leaping 10.92m (35-10.00).
 
(M) Shotput: With a Div. II provisional throw of 17.80m (58-4.75), Dustin Wurtz took eighth place and set the new foruth-farthest shoutput throw in school history. Fellow freshman Tyrus Smith placed tenth with a throw of 15.92m (52-2.75). Both Smith and Wurtz set new personal bests.
