MARYVILLE, Mo. — The Northwest Missouri State University women's basketball team claimed its 10th home win of the season with a 57-40 victory over the Central Oklahoma Bronchos Thursday in Bearcat Arena.
Northwest used 14 points off the bench from
Andrea Lopreato and 11 points from
Boston Wand to spur the home team to the triumph. Northwest is 12-10 overall and 5-7 in MIAA play. UCO is 8-14 overall and 3-10 in league action.
Northwest is 10-3 in Bearcat Arena. It marks the 15th time in program history that the Bearcats have won 10 or more home games in a season.
Northwest  doubled up UCO with a 36-18 advantage in points in the paint.
Northwest Missouri State started the first quarter with a balanced attack, matching the Bronchos' early scoring.
Boston Wand's jumper at 6:48 initiated Northwest's response, cutting the deficit and setting the tone for a competitive start.
Kirsten Hauck's 3-pointer at 6:17 further energized the home team, bringing the score to a tie.
As the quarter progressed,
Andrea Lopreato's defensive rebound at 2:02 and subsequent layup at the buzzer, assisted by Hauck, secured a narrow lead. The first quarter ended with the Bearcats ahead 16–12.
Northwest seized control in the second quarter with a dominant 14-point contribution in the paint, highlighted by a fast-break jumper from Wand at 9:14, assisted by
Ella Moody. The Bronchos were held scoreless in the second quarter from the 8:06 mark until the 1:23 mark. Northwest used a 12-0 run in that stretch by making 5-of-7 shots from the floor. Northwest held a 32-20 lead at the break.
Northwest seized control early in the third quarter with Wand's jumper at 9:35, setting the tone for a strong offensive display. Hauck extended the lead with a fast-break layup at 7:20, assisted by
Brooklyn Stanley. A critical defensive effort, including a block by
Sadie Maas, helped maintain momentum. Lopreato contributed with a layup and a free throw at 4:32, further cementing the lead. Northwest outscored Central 20-9 in the quarter, finishing with a 52-29 advantage as the quarter concluded.
In the fourth, Northwest maintained control despite offensive challenges, highlighted by Wand's layup at 8:40, assisted by Moody. The team effectively utilized defensive rebounds, with Moody and others limiting Central's second-chance opportunities. The Bearcats managed a fast-break jumper by
Maggie Collins at 2:57, extending their lead.
Although the Bronchos attempted to narrow the gap with a few successful free throws and jumpers, the Bearcats' defensive play ensured they maintained their advantage. The quarter concluded with Northwest ahead 57–40, securing the victory.
Lopreato led the team with 14 points and added two assists. Birmingham was perfect from the free-throw line, converting 7 of 7, and collected eight rebounds. Wand contributed to the defense with two blocks and scored 11 points. Maas also made a defensive impact with four blocks.
Northwest will face Rogers State Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Bearcat Arena.
