SHAWNEE, Kan. — Northwest Missouri State University (16-5) had a successful day at the Midwest College Classic, securing a narrow 4-3 victory over Quincy University (2-15) and a decisive 6-2 win against Concordia-St. Paul (6-7).
The Bearcats moved their winning streak to eight in a row and 13 victories in their last 14 games.
In the first game against Quincy, the Bearcats initially fell behind as K. Dumas hit a solo home run in the first inning. However, Northwest responded quickly;
Emma Hague walked, stole second, and scored on an RBI single by
Omara Love, tying the game at 1-1. The Bearcats took the lead in the fourth inning when
Jaeleigh Darnell hit a solo home run, followed by
Mackenzie Mlnarik doubling and scoring on a groundout RBI by
Kaylee Cords in the fifth, extending the lead to 3-1. Quincy rallied in the seventh, scoring two runs from a double by K. Moss, but the Bearcats added an insurance run when Hague doubled and scored on a walk-off sacrifice fly by Love, sealing a 4-3 victory.
Olivia Moyer pitched 5 solid innings, striking out 3 while allowing only 1 earned run on 4 hits, maintaining a WHIP of 0.80.
Rien Moore entered in relief, pitching 2 innings with 3 strikeouts but allowing 2 earned runs on 3 hits. Key contributors included Hague with a double, a walk, and two runs scored; Mlnarik with a hit, a double, and a run; Love with two hits and two RBIs; and Darnell with a solo home run.
In the second game against Concordia-St. Paul, Northwest Missouri State continued their strong performance by opening with a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Hague walked and stole second before scoring on a groundout by Love, and Mlnarik also scored due to an error. The Bearcats extended their lead to 3-0 in the second inning when
Timber Wilson walked and
Alexis Brown drove her in with a single. Brown later scored on an error, making it 4-1 by the end of the fourth. In the seventh, the Bearcats added two more runs, including one from a single by
Sara Farlow, while Concordia managed just one run, resulting in a final score of 6-2.
Jadyn Streigle delivered a standout performance on the mound, pitching a complete game with 6 hits and 2 runs allowed, while striking out 3 batters and achieving a WHIP of 1.14.
Emma Hague contributed significantly with two stolen bases, one hit, and one RBI;
Sara Farlow added two hits and an RBI; and
Alexis Brown recorded two stolen bases along with one hit and one RBI.
Northwest Mo. St. improves to 16-5, while Quincy falls to 2-15 and Concordia-St. Paul drops to 6-7. Looking ahead, the Bearcats will face William Jewell in a doubleheader Saturday, March 7, at 1 p.m. in Liberty, Mo.
