Anjelena Carder got the Bearcats off to a strong start on day one of the MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, taking third in the women's pentathlon at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kan.

Carder, a sophomore, secured third place in the pentathlon with an NCAA Division II provisional score of 3,756, earning the No. 3 spot in Northwest Missouri State's record books. She also notched the tenth-fastest times in school history in both the women's 60-meter hurdles and the 800-meter run.

(W) Pentathlon 60-meter Hurdles: Carder started off the competition strong earning second place with a new personal best time of 8.90 – giving her the tenth-fastest women's 60-meter hurdle time in school history. Carder's second place performance earned her 931 points and gave her second place overall to start the pentathlon. Â

(W) Pentathlon High Jump: Moving on to high jump, Carder passed over the bar at a height of 1.55m (5-1.00), placing her ninth in high jump and earning her a new personal best. Earning 678 points, Carder moved in fourth place overall in the pentathlon.

(W) Pentathlon Shot Put: Carder claimed fourth with a new personal best throw of 11.06m (36-3.50). Carder's performance allowed her to hold steady at fourth place overall and earned her 599 points.

(W) Pentathlon Long Jump: With a leap of 5.26m (17-3.00), Carder placed eighth in the women's pentathlon long jump. Earning 599 points, Carder moved in sixth place overall in the pentathlon.

(W) Pentathlon 800-meter Run: In her strongest performance of the day, Carder set another personal record with a 2:13.29 finish, earning first place in the event. The time also ranks as the tenth-fastest women's 800-meter run in school history. With this final first-place finish, Carder added 917 points to her total, finishing the pentathlon with 3,756 points and securing a third-place podium finish.

The Northwest women's track and field team earned six points from day one of the MIAA Championship currently placing them in fourth. Northwest will be back in action for day two of the MIAA championships on Saturday, Feb. 28. Saturday's events will begin with a continuation of the combined events at 11:30 a.m., with the field and running events starting later in the day at 2:00 p.m. On Sunday, Mar. 1, the final day of the meet, field events will start at 12:00 p.m., and running events will begin at 1:30 p.m.
