TOPEKA, Kan. — The Northwest Missouri State University softball team secured a decisive 6-1 victory over Rockhurst on Friday at Washburn Rural High School as a part of the Washburn Invitational.
The Bearcats (9-5 overall) capitalized on a five-run fourth inning to solidify their win, with six different players each contributing a hit. Northwest starting pitcher
Jadyn Streigle improved to 4-1 with her third complete game this season. Streigle gained her 37th career pitching victory as a Bearcat and her 37th complete game.
Northwest won for the sixth time in seven games. Rockhurst fell to 2-3 on the season.
The scoring began in the third inning when
Sara Farlow walked and later scored on
Mackenzie Mlnarik's double to right center, putting the Bearcats ahead 1-0. The score at the end of the third inning was 1-0 in favor of Northwest.
In the fourth inning, the Bearcats added five more runs.
Omara Love and
Kaylee Cords started with singles, and
Cora Schweitzer, pinch running for Cords, scored on a walk to Farlow. Jadyn Darnell also scored on a walk by
Timber Wilson, and
Emma Hague came home on a walk to
Curstin Todd.
Alexis Brown's single to left field brought in Wilson and Farlow, extending the lead. The inning concluded with Northwest leading 6-1.
Streigle delivered an impressive complete game performance for the Bearcats, allowing just four hits and only one earned run. Streigle demonstrated precise control, issuing no walks and striking out three batters. With a total of 86 pitches, 56 of which were strikes, Streigle maintained a WHIP of 0.57 and secured a notable achievement in the game.
Alexis Brown contributed two RBIs with a key hit during a bases-loaded situation.
Sara Farlow drew two walks, scored twice, and added an RBI to her performance.
Curstin Todd excelled defensively with six assists at shortstop while also drawing a walk and bringing in a run.
Looking ahead, Northwest will face Montana State-Billings on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 10 a.m. CT in Topeka, Kan., at the Washburn Invitational.
