The Northwest Missouri State University baseball team has moved its home-opening series with Fort Hays State University to Thursday and Friday for weather-related purposes.
 
The Bearcats and Tigers will play a doubleheader Thursday beginning at 11 a.m. and will close the series Friday with a single game at 1 p.m. Northwest leads the all-time series vs. Fort Hays State, 39-29. The teams split four games last season with Northwest scoring a 6-5, 10-inning win in the MIAA Tournament quarterfinals.
 
Northwest (8-4 overall) has won two of its three series matchups on the road to begin the season. Northwest took three of four this past weekend at Colorado State-Pueblo, after going 3-1 at Arkansas-Monticello.

Northwest is 3-1 in one-run games. The Bearcats have not allowed a run in the eighth or ninth inning of games this season.
 
Fort Hays State (3-7 overall) won its opening series of the season at UC-Colorado Springs, but has since dropped six of its last seven games. Colorado School of Mines took two of three from FHSU in Hays, Kan., this past weekend.
 
Northwest has hit an MIAA-best 14 home runs, which ranks tied for No. 12 in the nation. Six different Bearcats have hit round-trippers through the first 12 games. Frank Gall and Jeremiah Cabuyaban are tied for the team lead with four homers.

Senior Jeremiah Cabuyaban leads the squad in batting (.476), OPS (1.505), runs (13), hits (20), doubles (6), home runs (4) and on-base percentage (.600) … he ranks No. 7 in the nation in total bases (38), which is tops in the MIAA … he ranks No. 10 in the nation in doubles (6) … he has a team-high six multi-hit games … he has reached base in all 12 games … Hit a home run and drove in four runs in a win over Southwestern Oklahoma State on February 2 … Went 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs against CSU Pueblo on February 14… Hit two home runs and collected four RBIs in a victory over CSU Pueblo on February 16… Tallied two hits and an RBI in a win against Arkansas-Monticello on February 6.
 
Senior transfer Frank Gall is hitting .346 with a 1.012 OPS. Gall is tied for the team lead with four homers and 13 runs scored. He had knocked in a team-high 16 runs. Notable series performance against Arkansas-Monticello on February 6-7, combining for 11 at-bats, eight hits, nine runs, and one home run… On February 6 against Arkansas-Monticello, went 4-for-5 with six RBIs and one home run… In the series against CSU Pueblo from February 13-16, had eight hits, seven runs, and five RBIs… On February 14 versus CSU Pueblo, recorded two hits, including a home run, and four RBIs… Concluded the season with a .346 average and two doubles … he has four multi-hit games … has a team-best four multi-RBI contests … has reached base in 11 of 12 games.

Junior Jordi Ventura owns a .313 batting average and ranks third on the team in hits (15). He has scored eight runs. Ventura has produced five multi-hit games … Achieved three hits, including a double, against Arkansas-Monticello (Feb. 7)… Notched two hits and three RBIs, including a double and a home run, against Arkansas-Monticello (Feb. 6)… Tallied two hits and two RBIs against CSU Pueblo (Feb. 15)… recorded two hits and scored three runs against Arkansas-Monticello (Feb. 6)… Accumulated 10 putouts in the field… Hit by pitch three times this season.
 
Junior Chester Brooks is hitting .250 with 10 hits and eight runs scored. He has totaled four doubles and five RBI … Walked 10 times and has been hit by pitch two times… notable performance against Arkansas-Monticello on February 6 with 4 hits, including 2 doubles, and 2 RBIs… Achieved 3 hits and an RBI against CSU Pueblo on February 15… Delivered 4 assists and 3 putouts in the field against Arkansas-Monticello on February 6… Totaled 21 putouts and 11 assists for the season.
 
Redshirt freshman Michael Good is batting .400 with eight hits in 20 at-bats. Senior starter Landon Wells is 1-0 with a 4.66 ERA in 9 2/3 innings pitched. Wells has struck out 11 and walked four.
 
Sophomore Leonardo May is 2-1 in his three starts with 3.00 ERA and a 1.83 WHIP.
 
Senior Brock Steggall was credited with a save as he pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief work in the 3-2 win over SWOSU. Steggall whiffed three Bulldog batters and allowed three hits and no runs in the save. It was Steggall's fifth collegiate save for the Bearcats.
 
Northwest head coach Tony Jandron led the Bearcats to a berth in the 2025 MIAA Baseball Tournament championship game while securing the most ever wins by a first-year coach in program history.
 
Jandron guided the Bearcats to a 27-25 mark in the 2025 season. Northwest went 19-17 in MIAA play and earned the No. 6 seed in the 2025 MIAA Tournament. In 2025, the Bearcats set the program record for home runs (57) in a single season.
 
The Bearcats were selected to finish ninth in the 2026 MIAA preseason coaches poll.
