The Northwest Missouri State University baseball team has moved its home-opening series with Fort Hays State University to Thursday and Friday for weather-related purposes.
The Bearcats and Tigers will play a doubleheader Thursday beginning at 11 a.m. and will close the series Friday with a single game at 1 p.m. Northwest leads the all-time series vs. Fort Hays State, 39-29. The teams split four games last season with Northwest scoring a 6-5, 10-inning win in the MIAA Tournament quarterfinals.
Northwest (8-4 overall) has won two of its three series matchups on the road to begin the season. Northwest took three of four this past weekend at Colorado State-Pueblo, after going 3-1 at Arkansas-Monticello.
Northwest is 3-1 in one-run games. The Bearcats have not allowed a run in the eighth or ninth inning of games this season.
Fort Hays State (3-7 overall) won its opening series of the season at UC-Colorado Springs, but has since dropped six of its last seven games. Colorado School of Mines took two of three from FHSU in Hays, Kan., this past weekend.
Northwest has hit an MIAA-best 14 home runs, which ranks tied for No. 12 in the nation. Six different Bearcats have hit round-trippers through the first 12 games.
Frank Gall and

Frank Gall is hitting .346 with a 1.012 OPS. Gall is tied for the team lead with four homers and 13 runs scored. He had knocked in a team-high 16 runs. Notable series performance against Arkansas-Monticello on February 6-7, combining for 11 at-bats, eight hits, nine runs, and one home run… On February 6 against Arkansas-Monticello, went 4-for-5 with six RBIs and one home run… In the series against CSU Pueblo from February 13-16, had eight hits, seven runs, and five RBIs… On February 14 versus CSU Pueblo, recorded two hits, including a home run, and four RBIs… Concluded the season with a .346 average and two doubles … he has four multi-hit games … has a team-best four multi-RBI contests … has reached base in 11 of 12 games.

Brock Steggall was credited with a save as he pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief work in the 3-2 win over SWOSU. Steggall whiffed three Bulldog batters and allowed three hits and no runs in the save. It was Steggall's fifth collegiate save for the Bearcats.
Northwest head coach
Tony Jandron led the Bearcats to a berth in the 2025 MIAA Baseball Tournament championship game while securing the most ever wins by a first-year coach in program history.
Jandron guided the Bearcats to a 27-25 mark in the 2025 season. Northwest went 19-17 in MIAA play and earned the No. 6 seed in the 2025 MIAA Tournament. In 2025, the Bearcats set the program record for home runs (57) in a single season.
The Bearcats were selected to finish ninth in the 2026 MIAA preseason coaches poll.
