TOPEKA, Kan. – The Northwest Missouri State University indoor track and field teams continued the 2025-26 season's success on the second day of the Washburn Open hosted by Washburn University.

Ethan Gaschler secured the title men's shot put with an NCAA Division II provisional throw that put him in the school record books.

In an impressive race, seniors
Melanie Roland and
Lydia McGlocklin earned the fastest and second fastest times among NCAA Div. II competitors in the women's 800-meter run.Â

Sophomore
Campbell Barta continued her successful season, earning an NCAA Div. II provisional nod in women's long jump while placing first among Div. II schools

In the 60-meter hurdles, Sophomore
Frank Sparks had a second-place finish – entering himself into the record books with the second fastest time in program history.Â
Running Events
(M) 60-meter Hurdles: Three Bearcats competed in the event, with two qualifying for finals. Sophomore Franks Sparks took third with a Division II provisional time of 7.94 – giving him the second-fastest time in school history. Following five milliseconds behind was
Moses Koroma who took fourth with a Division II provisional time of 7.99.

In the finals, Sparks improved his qualifying time, placing second, claiming a Division II provisional time of 7.85 – breaking his own record for the second-fastest mark in school history. Sparks also set a new personal best. Koroma crossed the line with a Division II provisional time of 8.06, securing him seventh place.
(M) 400-meter Dash: Crossing over the finish at 47.79,
Logan Arellano took 13th place, set a new personal best, and recorded the sixth-fastest time in school history. Â
(M) 800-meter Run: Senior Brett Beard took 20th out of 55 competitors finishing with a time of 1:54.30.

(W) 800-meter run: Crossing the line at 2:13.57,
Melanie Roland secured third place – earning her the eighth-fastest time in school history. Following close behind was
Lydia McGlocklin in fifth place, finishing with a time of 2:14.50. Roland and McGlocklin finished first and second among Division II runners respectively. Â

(M) 1-mile Run: Senior
Barnabe Gabillet finished seventh overall with a time of 4:05.02, while junior
Grayson Tapp placed 10th in 4:08.66. Among Division II competitors, Gabillet earned a runner-up finish and Tapp placed third.
(M) 3000-meter run: Freshman
Jack Williams finished with a time of 8:32.75 placing 15th.

(W) 3000-meter run: Finishing with a time of 10:40.20, freshman
Ava Campbell secured 20th out of 52 competitors.Â

(W) Long Jump: With a Division II provisional jump of 5.84m (19-02.00),
Campbell Barta placed second out of 41 competitors. Barta had the highest performance among Division II competitors.Â

(M) Shot Put: Freshman
Ethan Gaschler secured the title with a Division II provisional throw of 17.10m (56-01.25) – giving him the sixth-longest shot put in school history. Next up was freshman
Tyrus Smith who took 12th overall with a throw of 15.33m (50-03.50). Both Gaschler and Smith set new personal bests. Rounding it out for the Cat's was
Alex Wilson with a throw of 14.37m (47-01.75) to take 16th place.

(W) Weight Throw: With a heave of 14.98m (49-01.75),
Margherita Sala took 11th place, set a new personal best, and recorded the tenth-longest weight throw in school history. Junior
Alli Poage had a throw of 14.75m (48-04.75) earning her 14th overall.
