TOPEKA, Kan. – The Northwest Missouri State University indoor track and field teams competed in the first day of the Washburn Open hosted by Washburn University

Senior
Dominic Sedlacek had an impressive showing in the men's 60-meter prelims and the men's 200-meter, earning Division II provisional nods in both, and entering into the school record books for his 200-meter performance.Â

Tyler Blay took 13th in the men's 5,000-meter run out of 55 other competitors.Â

In the men's weight throw, freshman
Dustin Wurtz and
Tyrus Smith both entered into the school record books and secured fourth and fifth, respectively.Â
Running Events
(M) 60-meter Dash Prelims: Two Bearcats competed in the event, with one qualifying for finals. Senior
Dominic Sedlacek clocked a Division II provisional time of 7.74, earning him the top qualifying time out of 107 other competitors.Â

Sedlacek will compete in the semi-finals tomorrow at 3:10 p.m. with the chance to advance to the finals which will take place at 4:05 p.m.
(M) 200-meter Dash: Sedlacek had another impressive performance, taking ninth place with a Division II provisional time of 21.55 – giving him the sixth-fastest time in school history. Sedlacek also set a new personal best.
(M) 5,000-meter run: Senior
Tyler Blay crossed the finish line in a time of 14:35.98, earning 13th place

(W) 5,000-meter run: Junior
Shelby Harris took 20th out of 49 competitors, finishing with a time of 18:24.70.

(M) Triple Jump: Sophomore
David Parker II leaped 13.97m (45-10.00) which earned him 18th overall.Â
(W) Shot Put: Freshman
Jordyn Matiyow secured ninth out of 43 other competitors with a throw of 12.54m (40-10.25).

(M) Weight Throw: With a heave of 17.92m (58-09.50),
Dustin Wurtz took fourth place, setting a new personal best, and recording the fourth-longest weight throw in school history. Right behind Wurtz was fellow freshman
Tyrus Smith who secured a 17.79m (58-04.50) throw earning him fifth place – giving him the fifth farthest weight throw in school history. Rounding it out for the 'Cats was
Josh Shelly who secured eighth overall with a throw of 17.16m (56-03.75).
