Northwest Missouri State University defender Emma Cook has been named the MIAA Women's Soccer Defender of the Week.
 
Cook, a sophomore from Omaha, Neb., scored her first career goal on a penalty kick in Northwest's 1-0 win at Northeastern State. Cook played a key defensive role in posting a shutout against the RiverHawks.
 
Cook's effort helped Northwest post its first MIAA season-opening win since 2012. Northwest is 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the MIAA.
 
The Bearcats will be in action at home this Friday at 3 p.m. vs. Central Oklahoma and Sunday at 1 p.m. vs. Newman.
