HUDSON, Wis. – The Northwest Missouri State University women's golf team handled the opening round and sits in second place at the MSU/CSP Fall Brawl held at Troy Burne Golf Course.
 
The 5,837-yard, par-71 setup played into the Bearcats hands as they shot a team score of 308 (+24) and are only seven shots out of first place held by Minnesota State. The Mavericks shot a team score of 301 (+17) on day one of the 36-hole event.
 
The Bearcats had a tournament-best scoring average of 4.85 on the four par-5 holes. Northwest went 3-under on the par-5s on Monday. The Bearcats have four of their five players score in the top 27 in the opening round.
 
Junior Clara Peake led the way with a pair of birdies on the front side. Peake opened with a two-under 34 en route to a 73 (+2) and is tied for third overall. Peake captured her birdies at the par-4 fourth hole and the par-3 eighth hole. Peake shot even par on the par-4 holes to tie for the best score in the field through 18. Holes.
 
Sophomore Lauren Briggs came through with a first-round tally of 76 (+5) and is tied for 11th overall. Briggs secured birdies at the par-4 ninth and the par-5 12th holes.
 
Sophomore Carleigh Reoh was the third member of the Bearcat squad to shoot sub-80 on day one. Reoh put together a pair of 39s to shoot 78 (+7) in the opening round. She is tied for 16th.
 
Freshman Delaney Medlyn captured a team-best three birdies and finished her first round with an 81 (+9). Medlyn gained her birdies on three of the par-5 holes (5, 12, 16). Medlyn was the only member of the field to score three birdies on the par-5 holes in the first round. Her three birdies tied for third most in the field. Medlyn is tied for 27th.
