SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State University volleyball team scored a 3-0 win in less than an hour over the Lane College Dragons at the Drury Invitational.
Northwest won by set scores of 25-6, 25-10 and 25-17. The Bearcats improved to 3-1 on the year, while the Dragons dropped to 0-5.
The Bearcats hit .400 for the match with 39 kills and only nine attack errors. Lane hit minus-.029 with 15 kills and 17 attack errors. The Bearcats served up 11 aces to boost the offensive attack.
Northwest did not commit an attack error in the first set and breezed to a 25-6 win. Northwest sided out at 100% for the set in six opportunities. The Bearcats scored the first seven points of the match. The Bearcats held a 17-3 after only 20 points played in the match. Northwest tallied a 25-6 win in the first set. Northwest hit .611 in the opening set with 11 kills and no attack errors.
Lane tallied the first three points of the second set, but Northwest quickly rallied to take a 6-3 lead. After the opening three points, Northwest would score 15 of the next 18 points to take a 15-6 advantage. The Bearcats landed seven aces in the second set with three apiece from
Ellery Luhring and
Maja Noehrer. Northwest hit .364 with 11 kills and three errors. The Bearcats took the second set, 25-10.
Northwest finished off the Dragons in the third set with a 25-17 victory. The third set featured five ties and two lead changes. The squads were deadlocked at 10-10 before Northwest took the lead for good. The Bearcats scored 12 of the next 16 points to hold a 22-14 edge. Northwest had 17 third-set kills and hit .314.
Ella Gunderson notched a team-best four kills in the third set.Â
Karsen VanScoy reached double figures in digs for the fourth straight match this season. VanScoy netted a team-best 11 digs.
Gabrielle Gartner landed a team-high six kills. Northwest had 12 different players record at least one kill and 11 of the 12 had two or more kills.Â
Ella Caffery dished out 29 assists and posted seven digs.Â
Northwest will return to action later today at 5 p.m. against tournament host Drury.
