Fresh off a 2-1 weekend to begin play, the Northwest Missouri State University volleyball team will return to action with four matches at the Drury Invitational set for Friday and Saturday at the O'Reilly Family Event Center in Springfield, Mo.

Northwest will tangle with Lane College, Drury University, East Central University and Cameron University.

The Lane Dragons are off to an 0-4 start with losses to Arkansas-Fort Smith (L, 3-0), Texas A&M-Kingsville (L, 3-0), Drury (L, 3-0) and Union (L, 3-1). It will be the first ever meeting between Northwest and Lane on the volleyball court.

Drury is 2-2 after scoring victories against Union (W, 3-0) and Lane (W, 3-0). The Panthers dropped matches to Harding (L, 3-1) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (L, 3-1). Northwest holds a 12-10 lead in the all-time series against Drury. Northwest and Drury last met in the 2019 season with both squads coming away with match wins – Northwest scored a win in Topeka, Kan., and Drury won a match at home in Springfield.

East Central is 0-4 after dropping all four matches to begin its season at the Dallas Classic Tournament. The Tigers fell to MSU Moorhead (L, 3-0), Dallas Baptist (L, 3-0), St. Edwards (L, 3-1) and Southwest Baptist (L, 3-0). Northwest is 3-0 in the all-time series vs. East Central. The programs last met in the 2016 season in Maryville, Mo., with the Bearcats gaining a 3-0 sweep of the Tigers.

Cameron began the season by losing all four matches it played at the FHSU Tiger Invitational. The Aggies fell to Rockhurst (L, 3-0), Fort Hays State (L, 3-0), Northwest Missouri State (L, 3-0) and Arkansas Tech (L, 3-0). Northwest holds a 2-0 lead in the all-time series with Cameron.

Northwest ranks tied for No. 2 in the nation in kills per set (15.33). Fort Hays State leads the nation in kills per set (15.41).

Northwest had a pair of performers earn FHSU Tiger Invitational All-Tournament team honors in
Ella Caffery and
Kasidy Mohwinkle. Caffery averaged 11.22 assists per set and secured her 18th career double-double. Caffery also tallied 26 digs (2.89 digs/set) in the three matches. She also led the squad with service aces (0.67 aces/set) in the tourney. Mohwinkle hit .393 with 27 kills (3.00 kills/set) in the trio of matches in Hays, Kan. Mohwinkle had at least seven kills in each match that included a season-high 11 putaways in the 3-0 win over Arkansas Tech, where she hit .550 on 20 swings.

Caffery dished out at least 32 assists per match at the FHSU Tiger Invitational. She logged her 18th career double-double with 36 assists and 12 digs in a 3-0 win over Cameron. Caffery was also effective in scoring points with 14 kills on 29 total attacks (.379 hitting percentage) over the three matches. Caffery leads the squad in assists (101) and service aces (6). Caffery ranks No. 10 in the nation in assists per set.

Kate Frakes put on quite a show in her 2025 debut by leading the team in kills (30) and hitting an impressive .418 from the middle. Frakes was one off a career-high with 13 kills (.550) against Arkansas Tech. She notched nine kills vs. Rockhurst and added eight more against Cameron.

Abby Bulthus scored a team-high 34.5 points at the FHSU Tiger Invitational. Bulthuis ranks No. 2 in the team in kills (29). Bulthuis posted a season-best 13 kills and hit .500 on 20 swings against Cameron.

Karsen VanScoy netted a trio of double-figure dig totals at the FHSU Tiger Invitational. VanScoy had 11 digs vs. Arkansas Tech, 16 vs. Rockhurst and 15 vs. Cameron. VanScoy has been credited with 13 career double-figure dig matches.

For the 12th straight year and 19th time overall, the Northwest Missouri State University volleyball team has been honored as a recipient of AVCA Team Academic Award sponsored by INTENT.Â

The Bearcat volleyball team recorded a 3.86Â cumulative team grade point average during the 2024-25 season. Northwest produced a 3.82 team GPA in the fall and a 3.91 team GPA in the spring. Northwest is one of 159Â NCAA Division II schools to gain the AVCA Team Academic Award this year. Northwest is one of 33 NCAA Div. II schools to have captured the award in each of the past 12 seasons. Northwest is among 16 programs to have been a recipient of the AVCA Team Award 19 times or more and one of two MIAA schools (Emporia State) with 19 or AVCA Team Academic Awards.

For the seventh time in program history, Northwest also gained the AVCA Team Academic Honor Roll Award. The additional distinction of Team Academic Honor Roll celebrates programs in the top 20% of GPAs for their division. Northwest has gained the Team Academic Honor Roll in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2024 and 2025. Northwest is one of 12 Div. II programs to have received the Team Academic Honor Roll in each of the past two seasons.

Northwest is led by 14th-year head coach
Amy Woerth. Woerth has produced a program-record 218 career victories. She holds a .594 winning percentage. In the offseason, coach Woerth represented USA D-2 Volleyball in a tour of Brazil. She brought along seniors
Kasidy Mohwinkle and
Ella Caffery. The Bearcat trio did not lose any matches in Brazil.

Woerth has compiled an overall mark of 218-149 and has taken over as the program's all-time winningest coach. Woerth captured her 200th career win in a 3-0 victory at home vs. Fort Hays State to close out the 2023 regular season. Woerth moved past Sarah Pelster, who had collected a mark of 199-226 from 1991 to 2002. Woerth captured her second MIAA Coach of the Year award in 2022. Woerth first earned MIAA Coach of the Year honors in 2018 and landed the award again in 2022 after guiding the Bearcats to the first MIAA regular season crown in program history. Woerth has led the Bearcats to five 20-win seasons in her tenure.Â

Woerth ranks No. 4 in career wins among active MIAA coaches. Nebraska-Kearney's Rick Squires (1,014), Washburn's Chris Herron (716) and Central Oklahoma's Edgar Miraku (310) are the only active MIAA coaches with more victories.
