Bearcat volleyball secures AVCA Team Academic awards

The Northwest Missouri State University volleyball program has been recognized as a recipient of the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award and has earned a spot on the AVCA's Team Academic Honor Roll sponsored by INTENT.

It marks the 19th time overall and 12th straight year the Bearcats have been honored with the AVCA Team Academic Award. Teams maintained a year-long grade-point average of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale), to earn the AVCA Team Academic Award

It is the seventh time Northwest has recorded the distinction of the Team Academic Honor Roll, given to programs that rank in the top 20 percent of the nation.

The Bearcat volleyball team, under the direction of 14th-year head coach Amy Woerth, recorded a 3.86 cumulative team grade point average during the 2024-25 season. Northwest produced a 3.82 team GPA in the fall and a 3.91 team GPA in the spring. Northwest is one of 159 NCAA Division II schools to gain the AVCA Team Academic Award this year. Northwest is one of 33 NCAA Div. II schools to have captured the award in each of the past 12 seasons.

Northwest is among 16 Div. II programs to have been a recipient of the AVCA Team Award 18 times or more and one of two MIAA schools (Emporia State) with 19 or AVCA Team Academic Awards.

For the sixth time in program history, Northwest also gained the AVCA Team Academic Honor Roll Award. The additional distinction of Team Academic Honor Roll celebrates programs in the top 20% of GPAs for their division. Northwest has gained the Team Academic Honor Roll in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2024 and 2025. Northwest is one of 12 Div. II programs to have received the Team Academic Honor Roll in each of the past two seasons.

"It is very exciting to see that the record-setting, on-court successes during the 2024-25 season have extended to the classroom," says AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon. "The fact that more programs earned the Team Academic Award than ever before is evidence of how committed our coaches are when it comes to helping their players reach their goals as both students and athletes."
INTENT, which is in its second year of sponsoring the prestigious award, is a game-changing, digital platform that links student-athletes (along with military special ops veterans) to a powerful network of candidate-seeking employers. The tech, information and internet company guides student-athletes and service members toward professional and personal success in life after sports and service.
