SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The No. 43-ranked Northwest Missouri State University women's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the 2025 MIAA Tournament with a 4-0 dual win over the Northeastern State University RiverHawks at the Cooper Outdoor Courts.
Northwest captured its eighth consecutive dual victory and moved its season mark to 14-7 overall. NSU dropped to 6-13 overall.
The Bearcats started strong by gaining the doubles point and taking a 1-0 lead. It is the 10th consecutive match Northwest has secured the doubles point. The No. 2 doubles team of
Miru Nonaka and
Alva Norberg won their ninth straight match to move to 11-1 on the year with a 6-3 triumph over NSU's Tegan Heaton and Annika Kleinhans. Northwest's No. 3 doubles pairing of
Polina Gontaryk and
Carolina Oliveira secured a 6-4 win over NSU's Camila Garzon and Barbora Hovlova. It is the third straight win for Gontaryk and Oliveira as a pairing.Â
Northwest closed out the 4-0 dual victory by winning the first three singles matches. No. 59-ranked
Alva Norberg gained her team-leading 18th win at No. 2 singles with a 6-3, 7-5 triumph over NSU's Adel Ismagulova. Oliveira posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over NSU's Kleinhans at No. 4 singles. Nonaka put up her fifth consecutive singles win with a 7-6, 6-1 victory over NSU's Lucia Bontempo at No. 5 singles.Â
The Bearcats will take on No. 2-seeded and No. 14-ranked Washburn Saturday at 10 a.m. in the MIAA Tournament semifinals.
