Northwest Missouri State University junior
Marielena Muench earned a pair of first-team honors as the Bearcat women's tennis team landed five spots on the All-MIAA squads as announced by the league office.
Muench gained first-team status in singles and doubles. Junior
Alva Norberg garnered first-team honors in singles. Freshman
Camilla Franzin paired up with Muench for the MIAA first-team doubles slot. Northwest's No. 2 doubles pairing of junior
Miru Nonaka and Norberg were awarded second-team all-MIAA honors.
Muench tallied first-team status in singles and doubles. Muench is 10-9 in dual play at No. 1 singles, which includes a mark of 5-4 in MIAA dual action. Muench is 2-3 against nationally-ranked foes, which includes victories over No. 43 Paula Balleseros (Southwest Baptist) and No. 18 Renske Ubachs (Washburn).
Norberg secured first-team honors in singles. Norberg has compiled a singles mark of 17-6 overall and 15-5 in dual play. Norberg is 7-2 in MIAA matches. Norberg has won nine of her last 12 singles matches.
In doubles action, Muench and Franzin went 11-9 at No. 1 doubles. The Muench and Franzin pairing went 6-3 in MIAA dual action. Muench and Franzin have won six of their last seven matches entering the 2025 MIAA Tournament.
Northwest's No. 2 doubles duo of Nonaka and Norberg went 10-1, including a mark of 8-1 in MIAA duals. Nonaka and Norberg have won eight straight doubles matches and 10 of their last 11 entering the 2025 MIAA Tournament.
The No. 43-ranked Bearcat women's tennis team (13-7 overall, 8-1 MIAA) will begin MIAA Tournament play 2 p.m. Friday against Northeastern State in Springfield, Mo. The Bearcats captured the program's 14th all-time MIAA regular season title. Northwest, Washburn and Nebraska-Kearney tied atop the MIAA standings with 8-1 dual records.
New this year, the All-MIAA teams were based on individual victories against conference opponents only. For singles, athletes received +6 points for each win at No. 1, +5 points for each win at No. 2, and so on. Same with doubles; doubles teams were awarded +3 points for each win at No. 1, +2 for each win at No. 2 and +1 for each win at No. 3. The singles player with the most points was automatically awarded the Player of the Year title and the freshman nominee with the most points was automatically awarded the Freshman of the Year honor.
