The Northwest Missouri State University men's and women's tennis teams each remain ranked in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association's national rankings.
The Northwest men (12-8 overall, 7-2 GAC/MIAA) slipped one spot to No. 41 in the nation. The Bearcat women (13-7 overall, 8-1 MIAA) moved down six slots to No. 43.
A trio of Bearcats are featured in the ITA's national singles rankings. On the men's side,
Dominik Wijntjes is ranked No. 19. For the women,
Marielena Muench is No. 33 and
Alva Norberg is No. 59.
Wijntjes, a first-team all-MIAA performer, is 18-5 in singles play this year. He is 16-4 in dual matches and his 7-2 against GAC/MIAA foes. Wijntjes has a 6-2 mark against nationally-ranked opponents.
Muench is 10-9 in dual play at No. 1 singles, which includes a mark of 5-4 in MIAA dual action this spring. Muench is 2-3 against nationally-ranked foes this year.
Norberg has compiled a singles mark of 17-6 overall and 15-5 in dual play. Norberg is 7-2 in MIAA matches. Norberg has won nine of her last 12 singles matches.
Each Bearcat squad will embark on conference tournament play this week. The Northwest men are set to take on Southern Arkansas today at 2 p.m. in Springfield, Mo., in the quarterfinals of the GAC/MIAA Tournament. The Northwest women, who captured the program's 14th all-time MIAA regular season crown, will begin MIAA tournament play Friday at 2 p.m. against Northeastern State also in Springfield, Mo.
