The Northwest Missouri State baseball team (15-16, 9-9 MIAA) is set to hit the road for a three-game series against Northeastern State. The series schedule has been adjusted due to weather, with a neutral-site doubleheader beginning at Noon on Sunday, April 6, followed by the series finale at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 7.
Following the road trip, the Bearcats will return home to host Missouri Western for a midweek match up on Wednesday, April 9, at 2 p.m., for North Nodaway Day at Bearcat Baseball Field.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. NORTHEASTERN STATE
The two teams will meet for the 55th time in history, while the RiverHawks hold a 32-22 series lead. The last time NSU and Northwest met was last season on April 19 – April 21, with the Bearcats taking two out of three at Bearcat Baseball Field.
ABOUT THE RIVERHAWKS
- NSU (10-22, 7-11 MIAA) is currently on an 11-game losing streak, with its last triumph coming against Washburn (W, 13-7) on March 16. The RiverHawks last traveled to Arkansas-Fort Smith on Tuesday, resulting in a 10-2 victory for the Lions.
- Junior Finley Bunch leads the RiverHawks with a .395 average from the plate, with a .500 on-base percentage. Bunch has made 12 starts in 20 games played this season. Redshirt junior Colton Ayres sits behind Bunch at .326, with 30 hits – six doubles, three home runs, and two triples. Both Holden Yolder and Mason Ruiz have belted a team-high four homers this season.
- On the mound, Braxton Jones (4-3) holds a 4.15 ERA with a team-leading 47 2/3 innings pitched. Jones has punched out 50 – fifth in MIAA, allowing 17 walks in eight games.
- NSU sits second in the MIAA in stolen bases, successfully swiping 66 on the season – averaging 2.06 a game.
PREVIOUSLY WITH THE GRIFFONS
Northwest had a slip-up against Missouri Western last go around, getting shutout, 4-0, on March 26 at Griffon Baseball Field. The Bearcats managed just three hits against Griffon starter Colby Deaver, who threw seven complete innings.
SO FAR THIS SEASON
- Dylan Hufft has been on a hot streak lately, previously going 5-for-5 in Northwest's recent win against top-ranked Central Missouri. Hufft leads the Bearcats with a .373 average from the plate – top 10 in the MIAA - on 39 hits. Hufft has tallied nine doubles and three triples. Over the course of 31 games (all starts) this season, Hufft has totaled 62 bases.
- Ashton Neuman sits second in the country with 37 drawn walks, topping the MIAA. Neuman works a .532 on-base percentage, hitting .269 this season, knocking in 27 RBI on 28 hits – tied for team-high six home runs.
- Three Bearcats have started in all 27 games, Ryan Wiliams, Ashton Neuman and Dylan Hufft.
- Kaehukai Young is slugging it at .504, leading the Bearcats with 40 RBI and ties with Neuman with six long-balls.
- Ryan Williams sits behind Hufft with a .298 average from the plate on 36 hits – 11 doubles and four home runs.
- Ben Haug (2-3) has thrown a team-high 39.1 innings, while punching out 39. Haug has recorded a seven-inning shutout win against Christian Brothers on Feb. 8.
- Brock Steggall (3-2) and Logan Brasel (3-0) are tied with a team-leading three wins out of the bullpen, as Leonardo May carries a 1.80 ERA through 10 innings in six appearances.
- As a team, Northwest sits second in the league in walks drawn (165), fifth in runs scored (239) and scoring (7.7 runs per game).

Ryan Williams was named a D2 Baseball Preseason All-America selection, announced Friday. Williams (Kansas City, Mo./Liberty HS) gained a spot on the D2 Baseball Third-Team All-America list.
