Bearcat trio to represent USA D-2 Volleyball on Brazil tour

A trio of members of the Northwest Missouri State University volleyball program will represent USA D-2 Volleyball on a tour of Brazil this May as announced by Ron Smith of USA Sports Tours & Events.

Head coach Amy Woerth along with senior right side hitter Kasidy Mohwinkle and junior setter Ella Caffery will be a part of the Red team that will compete in Brazil from May 12 through May 21.

Woerth will be entering her 14th season as the Bearcat coach in 2025.Woerth is a two-time MIAA Coach of the Year and holds the Northwest school record for coaching wins (216). Woerth has coached all seven of Northwest's AVCA All-America performers in program history. Woerth has had 17 All-MIAA first team honorees, 16 second team honorees, two third team honorees and 22 honorable mention accolades at Northwest. In addition, 140 Northwest student-athletes have been named to the MIAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll.

Caffery (Moscow, Iowa) gained honorable mention all-MIAA status in 2024. She also earned Academic All-District honors with a 3.91 GPA in business management. Caffery led the team with 813 assists (7.60 assists/set). Caffery ranked second on the squad in blocks (57). Caffery collected a career-high 58 assists in a five-set win over Missouri Western (Oct. 8). Caffery produced eight double-doubles in 2024 and 17 in her career. She had four 40-plus assist efforts in 2024.

Mohwinkle (Aplington, Iowa) ranks third on the team with 260 kills (2.43 kills/set). Mohwinkle has 13 double-figure kill efforts this season. She tied a season-high with 14 kills against Missouri Western (Oct. 8). She secured 14 kills (.300 hitting percentage) in a 3-1 win over Florida Tech (Sept. 13). Mohwinkle added 13 kills and hit .333 in a five-set win over No. 24-ranked Washburn (Sept. 27). In the season opener with Northern State (Sept. 5), Mohwinkle hit .444 with 13 kills. She has hit .300 or better in 10 matches in 2024.

The USA D-2 Volleyball Teams (BLUE TEAM & RED TEAM) are invited NCAA Division II women's players from across the country.  This teams are comprised of players recognized nationally, Regionally and by their Conferences. 

The BLUE TEAM is made up of 10 players representing 8 different colleges and universities and coming from 6 different home states. 

The RED TEAM is made up of 9 players representing 6 different colleges and universities and coming from 6 different home states. 

"This is an outstanding group of young women." says Ron Smith.  "Many of the players on this year's USA D-2 Volleyball Team - Brazil Tour had great individual seasons and led their teams into post season play."  "This tour is designed to expose players to a great volleyball experience while providing a once in a lifetime opportunity for educational, cultural and social growth."
 
The USA D-2 Volleyball Team tour will run from May 12 through May 21.  The team will begin with orientation in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on May 12th before the team departs for Sao Paulo, Brazil.  The teams will play (Doubleheader) in the city of Jundiai on Tuesday on May 13th.  On May 14th the teams travel and play in the city of Sao Paulo.  On Thursday, May 15th the USA D-2 Volleyball Teams fly from Sao Paulo to Rio de Janeiro.  In Rio the teams will be a part of an "International Challenge" on Saturday, May 17th.  The USA teams will play 2 matches each.  Fluminense and Barra Mansa Volei Clube. 

During the team's time in Rio the TEAM will be conducting a youth clinic at the Marina Barra Clube, hosted by Ripper Volei as part of their "social outreach project".  This popular outreach opportunity for the USA D-2 Volleyball Team is already filled to capacity.
 
While in Brazil the team will experience educational, cultural, and social aspects of Brazilian life through city, school and sports club visits.  While in Rio the team will be staying on the famous Copacabana Beach (location for the 2016 Rio Olympic Beach Volleyball) and touring the Christ the Redeemer Statue and Sugar Loaf Mountain, two of the most recognizable landmarks in the world.  The team will visit the popular international market in Ipanema and Ipanema Beach.
