Sedlacek, Witt shatter more school records; Bearcats total nine titles in LA

The Northwest Missouri State outdoor track and field teams breezed through its second day of California competition, capturing nine event titles at the Cal State LA Twilight, and setting two new school records across three meets around the LA area. 

Dominic Sedlacek and Riley Witt each posted record-breaking performances for the Bearcats. Sedlacek placed second in the 100-meter dash at the Cal State LA Twilight with a new school-best mark. Witt set another school record in the 800-meter run, finishing ninth overall among 132 athletes at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
 
BRYAN CLAY INVITATIONAL
  • (W) 800m Open: Jadyn Barnes ran a time of 2:10.98 to finish 10th overall and 3rd in her heat, marking the sixth-fastest time in program history. The event featured 167 total competitors.
  • (W) 800m Invite: Marie Dea recorded a time of 2:09.42 to finish 75th, while Lydia McGlocklin crossed in 2:11.36 for 103rd place out of 127 athletes.
  • (M) 800m Invite: Riley Witt broke the school record with a time of 1:48.42, good for 9th place out of 132 runners. Witt surpassed Maxime Touron's previous program best of 1:49.48. Charlie Kinslow also competed, finishing 84th at 1:51.14.
  • (M) 5000m Open: Grant Bradley posted Northwest's second-fastest time in history with a 14th-place finish at 13:57.95. 
  • (M) 10,000m Run (Thursday night): Tyler Blay delivered a strong showing late Thursday, placing 11th in a 39-athlete field with a time of 29:21.65—the second-fastest mark in Bearcat history.
CAL STATE LA TWILIGHT

FIELD EVENTS
  • (W) Long Jump: Northwest swept the top two spots as Campbell Barta won the event with a leap of 5.58m (18-03.75), followed closely by Kyah Luhring at 5.46m (17-11.00).
RUNNING EVENTS
  • (M) 100m: Dominic Sedlacek shattered the school record with a time of 10.30, finishing second overall—just one-hundredth of a second off the win. His time ranks No. 9 nationally. Zac Anderson placed 14th at 10.95.
  • (W) 100m Hurdles: Grace Hill captured the event title in 14.61, her first of two strong performances on the day. Hannah Hatzenbuehler added a sixth-place finish with a 15.40.
  • (M) 110m Hurdles: Moses Koroma clocked a winning time of 14.15, with Frank Sparks finishing second at 14.25 to give Northwest a one-two finish.
  • (M) 200m: Joel Dos Santos led a deep Bearcat field with a winning time of 21.11. Keith Griffin III (21.38) and Gavyn Monday (21.42) followed in 5th and 6th. Zac Anderson placed 12th at 21.93, while Christian Lanphier finished 21st at 22.41.
  • (W) 200m: Tiffany Hughey claimed the crown with a 24.22 finish, just ahead of runner-up Chloe Saenz at 24.37 for another one-two Bearcat finish. 
  • (W) 400m: Melanie Roland continued her impressive spring, winning the 400m in 54.51, currently ranked No. 14 in NCAA Division II.
RELAYS
  • (M) 4x100m: The quartet of Koroma, Sedlacek, Monday, and Dos Santos raced to a time of 39.99, the third-fastest in program history and currently No. 6 in the nation.
  • (W) 4x100m: The team of Jaurdin Mallory, Hallie Henfling, Kyah Luhring, and Campbell Barta claimed gold with a winning mark of 46.18.
ULV LEOPARD INVITATIONAL
  • (W) 100m Hurdles (Prelims): Grace Hill and Hannah Hatzenbuehler posted the top two qualifying times. Hill ran a 14.61 to win her heat, while Hatzenbuehler followed in 14.87.
  • (M) 110m Hurdles: In a tight field of eight, Frank Sparks placed 3rd with a time of 14.52.
UP NEXT
Northwest will continue competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational while wrapping up action at the ULV Leopard Invitational in California.
