Alva Norberg has been named the MIAA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week.
Norberg (Stockholm, Sweden) notched two victories at No. 2 singles and two wins at No. 2 doubles to lift the Bearcats to a pair of MIAA road dual victories over Central Oklahoma (W, 5-2) and Newman (W, 4-3).
The No. 46-ranked Norberg posted a three-set win over UCO's Nefeli Zafeiri at No. 2 singles, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2. Norberg also worked a three-set victory against Newman's Ani Zeikidze, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 6-2. Norberg is 14-5 overall and 12-4 in dual singles play. Norberg has won four consecutive singles matches. Norberg is 1-0 against nationally-ranked opponents this spring with a three-set win over No. 18-ranked Narindra Ranaivo (Nebraska-Kearney) on March 29.
Norberg teamed up with
Miru Nonaka at No. 2 doubles to gain a 6-2 win over UCO's Pete Komada and Ayaa Koga. Norberg and Nonaka also delivered a 6-2 triumph over Newman's Nicole Bono and Luna Feillon at No. 2 doubles. Norberg and Nonaka are 6-1 as teammates this spring at No. 2 doubles.
The No. 49-ranked Bearcat women (9-7 overall, 4-1 MIAA) are in action today at Northeastern State in Tahlequah, Okla.
