The Northwest Missouri State baseball team (17-18, 11-11 MIAA) will host the Newman Jets for a three-game weekend series starting at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 11, at Bearcat Baseball Field. During game two on Saturday, April 12, the Bearcats will honor the 50th anniversary of the 1975 World Series team.

Northwest will then host No. 3 Central Missouri for its series finale at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15. The Bearcats secured the regular season series with a 6-3 win on March 18, and a 13-4 win in Warrensburg on April 1. 
 
HONORING THE 1975 WORLD SERIES TEAM
The Northwest Missouri State baseball team would like to invite ALL Bearcat Baseball alumni this Saturday, April 12, for a special recognition for the 50th anniversary of the 1975 World Series team.
A detailed schedule is listed below for alumni attending:

Saturday, April 12
  • Time: 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Activity: Pre-game hangout – prior to first pitch, alumni are invited on the field for pre-game practice.
*Northwest batting practice starts at approximately 11:40 a.m. and fielding practice at 1:05 p.m.
 
  • Time: 1:30 p.m.
Activity: Alumni gather behind the home team dugout – 1975 World Series Team recognition
  • Time: 1:45 p.m.
Activity: All alumni on-field recognition and First pitch ceremony for 1975 team
  • Time: 2 p.m.
Activity: National Anthem – teams take the field
  • Time: 2:05 p.m.
Activity: First pitch - Northwest vs. Newman
  • Time: 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Activity: Post-game social – refreshments and pizza provided at Michael J. Faust Center.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. NEWMAN
The Bearcats sit at a 6-8 mark in the all-time series with the Jets. Newman swept Northwest in last season's three-game set at home on April 12 – April 14. 
 
ABOUT THE JETS
Newman (8-26, 4-20 MIAA) comes into this weekend on a 13-game skid, recently dropping its exhibition contest with Division I opponent, Wichita State University. 
 
PREVIOUSLY WITH THE MULES
The Bearcats secured the season series with another victory over the nationally ranked Mules on April 1. Northwest secured its first-ever win against a top-ranked opponent with a dominant 13-4 victory over No. 1 Central Missouri. The Bearcats racked up 12 hits, including seven for extra bases (six doubles, one triple), and finished strong by scoring nine unanswered runs in the final three frames.

Dylan Hufft had a perfect day from the plate, going 5-for-5 with three RBI – a home run short of the cycle. Ryan Williams contributed three doubles and three RBI, while Kaehukai Young added two hits and drove in three runs.

Landon Wells earned the win in relief, tossing 4 1/3 scoreless innings with just two hits allowed and five strikeouts. 
 
SO FAR THIS SEASON
  • Dylan Hufft leads the Bearcats with a .352 average from the plate – top 10 in the MIAA - on 50 hits. Hufft has tallied nine doubles and three triples. Over the course of 35 games (all starts) this season, Hufft has totaled 71 bases. 
  • Ashton Neuman sits fifth in the country with 38 drawn walks, topping the MIAA. Neuman works a .468 on-base percentage, hitting .276 this season, knocking in 34 RBI on 34 hits – leading the 'Cats with seven homeruns. 
  • Three Bearcats have started in all 35 games, Ryan Wiliams, Ashton Neuman and Dylan Hufft. 
  • Kaehukai Young is slugging it at .522, leading the Bearcats with 43 RBI and sits second on the team with six longballs. 
  • Reigning MIAA Hitter of the Week, Ryan Williams sits behind Hufft with a .321 average from the plate on 43 hits – 13 doubles and five homeruns. 
  • Ben Haug (3-3) has thrown a team-high 46 1/3 innings, while punching out 44. Haug has recorded a seven-inning shutout win against Christian Brothers on Feb. 8. 
  • Logan Brasel (4-0) provides a perfect record on the season, recently tossing a seven-inning, four-hit gem with eight strikeouts in a 10-0 shutout win against Northeastern State. 
  • As a team, Northwest sits second in the league in walks drawn (185), sixth in runs scored (272) and scoring (7.8 runs per game).

JANDRON TAKES OVER
First-year head coach Tony Jandron takes the reigns as only the fourth leader in the last 42 seasons of Bearcat baseball. This is the first head coaching job for Jandron after previously serving as an assistant coach at Illinois State, Central Michigan, Northwood and the College of DuPage.

WILLIAMS NAMED PRESEASON D2 BASEBALL ALL-AMERICAN
Northwest Missouri State University senior Ryan Williams was named a D2 Baseball Preseason All-America selection, announced Friday. Williams (Kansas City, Mo./Liberty HS) gained a spot on the D2 Baseball Third-Team All-America list.
