The Northwest Missouri State baseball team (6-8, 0-3 MIAA) is set to face the Washburn Ichabods this weekend. Due to weather, the series opener will take place at 3 p.m., on Saturday, March 8Â at Falley Field in Topeka, with games two and three still scheduled to be held in Maryville, both at 1 p.m.
The Bearcats will round off their busy week with a midweek contest at 5 p.m., against William Jewell on Tuesday, March 11 at Talley Stadium in Liberty, Mo.Â

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. WASHBURN
The Bearcats hold a one-game upper edge in the all-time series, 67-66. On its home diamond, Northwest is 27-15 against the Ichabods. The two teams' matchup up three times in a sporadic series throughout the 2024 season, with the Ichabods take two-out-of-three.Â

ABOUT THE ICHABODS
- Washburn (10-6, 5-1 MIAA) started off the 2025 season winning just one out of six. Since then, the Ichabods have been red-hot, going 9-1 in its last ten games. Washburn comes into the weekend with a recent clean sweep over the No. 12-ranked Missouri Southern State Lions, as well as a midweek victory over William Jewell.Â
- A pair of Ichabods have hit six homeruns on the season in Easton Bruce – leads team with 19 RBIs - and Hayden Priest. As a team, Washburn has launched 33 homers to rank second nationally behind Westmont's 34. The Ichabods have tallied 41 extra base hits so far, with Cash Jay leading the team in doubles with seven.
- On the bump, Caleb Lunnon provides a 2-0 record with a 2.11 ERA in 21 1/3 innings of work. Cooper Carlgren has struck out a team-high 15 punchouts in four appearances, as Griffin Huiatt has appeared the most out of the bullpen (6).Â

SO FAR THIS SEASON
- Senior utility player Ryan Williams leads the Bearcats with a .370 average from the plate, 20 hits, while remaining flawless in the field. Behind the plate, he has also thrown out two baserunners. Â
- Senior infielder Dylan Hufft follows closely with a .351 batting average and a .491 slugging percentage. Hufft ties with Williams with 20 hits, including a team-high six doubles and one triple. Hufft has tallied the second-most total bases with 28.Â
- Senior infielder Kaehukai Young has been key to the Bearcat offense, launching a team-best five long-balls —fourth-most in the MIAA—and leading Northwest with 22 RBIs, which ranks third in the conference. Young is hitting .333 on the season. Â
- Offensively, the Bearcats have plated 115 runs through 14 games, ranking eighth in the conference. Patient at the plate, the 'Cats lead MIAA in worn pitches from opposing squads.Â
- The Bearcats were picture perfect in the field last weekend against Concordia-St. Paul, not committing a single error, only 11 on the season – seven games this season without a miscue.Â
- Northwest has been aggressive on the basepaths, successfully stealing 15 bases in 17 attempts. Â
- On the mound, junior right-hander Brock Steggall leads the 'Cats with a 2.31 ERA in 11 2/3 innings.
- Junior pitcher Ben Haug (2-1) leads the team with 19 innings pitched, highlighted by a complete-game shutout in Northwest's dominant 16-0 victory on Feb. 8. Haug has recorded a team-high nine strikeouts. Haug has struck out a team-high 15.Â
LAST TIME OUT
The Bearcats took two out of three games against Concordia-St. Paul last weekend in their home opening series. Northwest took the opener, 6-3, before falling the next day, 10-8. In the series finale, the 'Cats strung together 14 runs on 14 hits, to come away with a 14-4 victory in eight innings.Â

Tony Jandron takes the reigns as only the fourth leader in the last 42 seasons of Bearcat baseball. This is the first head coaching job for Jandron after previously serving as an assistant coach at Illinois State, Central Michigan, Northwood and the College of DuPage.

Ryan Williams was been named a D2 Baseball Preseason All-America selection, announced Friday. Williams (Kansas City, Mo./Liberty HS) gained a spot on the D2 Baseball Third-Team All-America list.
