MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State University softball team blasted the Newman University Jets in a home doubleheader with a pair of five-inning victories.
Northwest won game one, 18-0 and then pounded out a 9-0 triumph in the second game.
Northwest has won three games in a row to improve to 15-20 overall and 5-9 in MIAA play. Newman fell to 6-30 overall and 1-11 in league action.

GAME ONE
Freshman
Erika Gore tossed her first collegiate shutout with a two-hit gem against the Jets. Gore got plenty of offensive support as the Bearcats pounded out 18 runs and 20 hits in an 18-0 victory.

Gore allowed a single to Newman's first batter of the game Lani Dryden, but Dryden was caught stealing to erase her off the base paths. Gore went on to retire the next 11 batters. She did not allow another hit until the fifth inning.

By then the Bearcat offense had seized control of the contest. Northwest score two runs in the first, four more in the second and one in the third. The Bearcats blew the game wide open with an 11-run rally in the fourth inning to take an 18-0 lead.

A trio of Bearcats recorded three hits in
Alexis Brown,
Skylar Pieper and
Gaige Pinkerton.
Omara Love connected on a grand slam home run to cap the scoring in the game. It was Love's first career home run in 370 collegiate at bats. Love drove in five runs in the win.

GAME TWO
Northwest's
Jadyn Streigle recorded a five-inning shutout to lift the Bearcats to a 9-0 win and a sweep of the doubleheader.

Streigle got out of a first-inning bases loaded jam and went on to limit the Jets to two hits. Streigle improved to 5-6 on the year as she struck out seven Newman batters.

Northwest connected on 13 hits in game two, led by
Malia Cuevas's three-hit day. Cuevas also drove in four runs. Cuevas tallied five hits in the doubleheader.

Northwest will be on the road this upcoming week with doubleheaders at Pittsburg State (Friday, 1 p.m./3 p.m.) and at Missouri Southern (Saturday, 12 p.m./2 p.m.).
