BOLIVAR, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University Bearcats used a three-set victory at No. 6 singles to edge the No. 47-ranked Northwest Missouri State University women's tennis team in Saturday dual action.

Northwest dropped to 5-5 overall, while SBU moved to 6-4 overall.

SBU gained a 1-0 lead by gaining wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Northwest's No. 2 doubles duo of Alva Norberg and Miru Nonaka secured a 6-2 victory. It marked the fifth time this season the Bearcats failed to win the doubles point.

Marielena Muench blew past No. 43-ranked Paula Balleseros at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-2. Muench ran her win streak to five matches in a row and she sits at 6-3 in dual play.

No. 70-ranked Alva Norberg continued her winning ways with a 7-6 (8-6), 6-3 triumph over SBU's Defne Ursan at No. 2 singles.

Anne Carvalho Pereira put up a three-set win over SBU's Leticia Luiz at No. 4 singles, 4-6, 6-2 and 6-2. Pereira has won five straight dual matches.

However, SBU's Maria Clara Zotti held on for a 1-6, 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 6 singles over Northwest's Nonaka for the dual clinching point.
