The Northwest Missouri State track and field teams will open its outdoor season this weekend at the Spire Distance Carnival. The meet is set for Friday, March 21, on the campus of the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Kan., with events beginning at 6 p.m.

LAST WEEK AT NCAA INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
- Junior distance runner Riley Witt is the recipient of the NCAA ELITE 90 award for the 2025 NCAA Division II Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships. Witt is the fifth Bearcat to earn the Elite 90 Award following Blake Morgan (Indoor Track & Field) in 2024, Dakota Schmidt (Outdoor Track & Field) in 2023, Jaran Richman (Men's Basketball) in 2021, and Trevor Adams (Football) in 2013. Witt is the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association's 49th Elite 90 recipient.
- The Bearcat men recorded their highest team finish at the NCAA indoor championships since 1987, placing 5th overall with 30 points. The Northwest women scored four points, tying for 36th place in the team standings.
- Northwest's 4x400-meter relay team of Prince Griffin, Logan Arellano, Keith Griffin III, and Truman Hare shattered the school record with a time of 3:08.18—now the 5th-fastest time in Division II history across all tracks—earning them a 3rd-place national medal.
- The men's DMR squad of  Riley Witt, Logan Arellano, Maxime Touron, and Grant Bradley delivered a historic performance, smashing their own school record with a blistering time of 9:33.06. Their effort secured a national runner-up finish and now ranks as the second-fastest time in NCAA Division II history across all tracks.Â
