MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Northwest Missouri State University baseball team (3-4 overall) dropped the opener 8-6 but responded with a dominant 16-0 victory in game two of Saturday's doubleheader against Christian Brothers University (4-2 overall) at Nadicksbernd Field.
On the mound,
Ben Haug tossed a four-hit shutout with six strikeouts in seven innings of work in game two. Haug didn't allow a hit after the third inning.
Hufft had a day from the plate, finishing the doubleheader 6-for-7 with three doubles, a triple, and seven RBIs.
Jacob Selock launched his 13th career homer and drove in four runs.
Northwest holds a 2-1 lead in the weekend series.
GAME ONE: CBU 8, Northwest 6
The Bearcats fought until the final inning, plating two runs with two outs in the seventh, but fell short in an 8-6 loss.
Dylan Hufft led the offense, going 3-for-4 with a double, triple, and three RBIs.
Leonardo May added two hits, including a two-RBI double.
Northwest erased an early 2-0 deficit in the third when Hufft's two-run triple evened the score. CBU regained the lead, but Kahuakai Young responded with his second homer of the season in the fourth to tie it at 3-3. The Bucs took a 5-3 advantage in the bottom half, before the Bearcats chipped away with runs in the fifth off Hufft's third RBI of the day. CBU led by as much as four in the final inning.
Alex Bowers was hit by a pitch, followed by two quick fly outs. Hufft singled,
Parker Griffith walked, bringing up
Leonardo May. May ripped a double, scoring two runners.
Starter
Jaren Guck threw 3 1/3 innings before
Jaxon Meyer came into pitch. Guck allowed eight hits, five runs (four earned), two walks a strikeout. Meyer threw the remaining 2 2/3 innings, allowing four hits, three runs (all earned), four walks and a strikeout.
GAME TWO: Northwest 16, CBU 0
The Bearcats erupted early, scoring 12 runs in the first two innings to cruise to a 16-0 shutout.
Hufft continued his stellar day, going 3-for-3 with two doubles and four RBIs in game two—finishing the doubleheader 6-for-7 with three doubles, a triple, and seven RBIs.

Bowers got things started with a leadoff single, followed by back-to-back hits from Williams to put two runners on for the Bearcats.
Ashton Neumann loaded the bases, setting up Hufft for a two-run double. An error by the Bucs' shortstop allowed Young to reach and plated two more runs, giving Northwest a quick 4-0 lead.
Haug retired the side in order in the bottom of the first, including a strikeout.
Bowers sparked another rally in the second with another leadoff single, quickly advanced by a Williams double. Hufft delivered again, driving in two more to extend the lead to 6-0. After a CBU pitching change, Selock tacked on an RBI single, pushing the lead to 10-0. Williams then lifted a deep sac fly to right field, bringing in two more runs.
With Haug in control on the mound, the Bucs were held hitless after the third inning.
Northwest kept its foot on the gas, loading the bases in the first before Hufft's two-run double and a Bucs' error made it 4-0. The second inning saw another outburst, as Hufft added another two-run double, followed by Selock's RBI single and a deep sac fly from
Ryan Williams that plated two more, stretching the lead to 12-0.
The Bearcats tacked on two runs in both the third and fifth innings to secure a 2-1 series lead with a commanding 16-0 win.
