TOPEKA, Kan. - The Northwest Missouri State University softball team finished day two of the Washburn Invitational with a 14-0 win over Northern State after dropping a 6-1 decision to Maryville.
Northwest is 7-6 on the season and have won three of four so far at the Washburn Invitational.
MARYVILLE 6, NORTHWEST 1
Maryville catcher Kaitlyn Wagn did all of the offensive damage as she walloped two three-run homers to power the Saints to a 6-1 win over Northwest in a game played at Washburn Rural High School.
Bearcat starting pitcher
Jadyn Streigle surrendered both homers to Wagn and took her first loss of the season. Streigle struck out seven and walked four.
Wagn connected in the first inning with one out to give Maryville a 3-0 lead.
Northwest got on the board in the third when
Omara Love lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to score
Curstin Todd from third.
Wagn put the game out of reach in the seventh when she hit another one-out three-run home run to give Maryville a 6-1 advantage. The homer chased Streigle from the game and head coach
Naomi Tellez called on
Rien Moore to get the final two outs of the contest.
Northwest tallied four hits, but three of the hits went for extra bases. Love,
Malia Cuevas and Todd each recorded a double against the Saints.
Lillie Filger and
Skylar Pieper each stole a base in the contest.
NORTHWEST 14, NORTHERN STATE 0 (5 INNINGS)
Northwest jumped out early and often against a sloppy Northern State softball squad its second game of the day en route to a 14-0 triumph.
Northwest batted around in the first inning and plated eight runs. Ten of the first eleven batters reached base as the Bearcats collected five hits and took advantage of two NSU errors in the first inning.
The Bearcats continued their scoring assault in the second by adding six more runs on four hits. NSU made three errors in the second as the Bearcat moved out to a 14-0 cushion.

Rien Moore earned the win by tossing one-hit ball over three innings. She struck out three and walked two.
Cassidy Paulson worked the final two innings and allowed one hit and struck out one NSU batter.
Northwest pounded out 13 hits to tie for its third-highest single-game mark this season.

Omara Love each recorded three hits. Northwest had six players score two runs in
Lillie Filger, Brown, Love,
Timber Wilson,
Mackenzie Mlnarik and
Curstin Todd.
Northwest will wrap up play in the 2025 Washburn Invitational Tuesday with matchups against Minnesota-Crookston (10 a.m.) and Rockhurst (2 p.m.). Both games will be played at Silver Lake High School in Silver Lake, Kan.
