MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Missouri Southern Lions got a bucket from Jaden Taylor with :03 left to edge the Northwest Missouri State University men's basketball team at Bearcat Arena, 69-67.
The Bearcats led 65-61 with less than two minutes to play before the Lions used an 8-2 run to end the game and extend Northwest's losing skid to nine straight games. Northwest remains winless at home falling to 0-7 on the season.
Northwest had three players reach double-figure scoring in
Emorie Knox with 15 points,
Trey Moala with 12 points and
Padraig Gallagher with 11 points. Knox dished out a game-high nine assists to go against only two turnovers in 33-plus minutes of action. Moala corralled a team-best eight rebounds.
Northwest is 4-19 overall and 2-12 in MIAA play. MSSU is 11-12 overall and 6-8 in league action. MSSU was led in scoring by Taylor's 21 points and Martin Macenis's 18 point effort.

Northwest's
Trey Moala scored the first bucket of the game, but MSSU scored the next eight points. The Lions built a 15-8 advantage with 11:43 to play in the half for its largest margin in the opening 20 minutes. Northwest retook the lead at 25-24 on a pair of free throws from
Luke Moustakas with 5:00 to play in the half. The Lions knocked in back-to-back triples to take a 30-25 lead with 3:51 on the clock. Knox buried a three-pointer with less than :05 left in the half to pull the Bearcats to within one at the break, 36-35.

The second half began with Missouri Southern opening a nine-point bulge at 48-39 with 16:31 to play. The Bearcats answered quickly with an 11-1 spurt to give Northwest a 50-49 lead with 11:23 left in the game. The contest stayed within four points and featured two ties at 52-52 and 67-67 the rest of the way.

MSSU took a three-point lead at 59-56 following a flagrant foul on Taylor and a deadball technical foul on Gallagher with 7:23 left in the game. Buckets from
Jack Ratigan and
Ja'Vion Byers gave the lead back to Northwest at 60-59 with 5:06 remaining. Taylor put the Lions back on top with 3:04 to go only to have the Bearcats respond again.

Moala scored in the lane with 2:47 left and
Marcus Glock buried his second three-pointer of the game with 2:14 to go to put the Bearcats up four, 65-51. Macenis tallied a pair of field goals to knot the game at 65-65. Knox drew a foul with 1:02 to play to give Northwest its final lead of the game at 67-65. Macenis knotted the game at 67-67 with 38.2.

With the score tied, Ratigan missed a shot in the lane and the Lions's Tyrone Wright retrieved the rebound and got the ball to Taylor. MSSU did not take a timeout and Taylor drove to the basket and scored with :03 left.

Following Taylor's go-ahead shot, Northwest inbounded the ball to Knox who raced up the floor and got off a potential game-winning triple before the buzzer. However, the shot bounced off the rim giving MSSU the two-point road win.

Northwest will be back in action Saturday at home against Pittsburg State. Tip is set for 3:30 p.m. following the women's game in Bearcat Arena.
