The Northwest Missouri State women's basketball team (11-12, 4-9 MIAA) welcomes Missouri Southern at 5:30 p.m., for its annual Pink Out Game on Thursday, Feb. 13, followed by No. 5 Pittsburg State at 1:30 p.m., on Saturday, Feb. 15.

SCOUTING THE LIONS
Missouri Southern (16-9, 8-5 MIAA) defended its home court last week with dominant wins over Newman (77-40) and Emporia State (86-68). The Lions feature two double-digit scorers—redshirt sophomore Ryan Franklin (13.7 PPG) and redshirt senior Kaitlin Hunnicutt (12.3 PPG). MSSU leads the MIAA in turnover margin (+4.20) and ranks third in offensive rebounds per game (11.9). The Lions also boast the league's second-best three-point shooting percentage at 32.9%.
ALL-TIME SERIES WITH THE LIONS
Northwest has taken down MSSU in its last two match ups, yet trails in the all-time series 37-30 - 18-16 record on its home floor.
SCOUTING THE GORILLAS
Pittsburg State (21-2, 13-0 MIAA) remains the only unbeaten team in conference play. The Gorillas' only losses came against ranked opponents—falling to Ferris State in the season opener and Nova Southeastern at the NSU Holiday Invitational. PSU is powered by a trio of top scorers: senior Karenna Gerber (15.7 PPG), senior Grace Pyle (15.0 PPG), and sophomore Macie Mays (14.7 PPG). The Gorillas are set to face Missouri Western on Thursday.

Pittsburg State leads the all-time series 43-22. When the two teams' last met on Dec. 2, 2023, the Bearcats came out with a 69-59 win at Bearcat Arena.

Caely Kesten reached the 1,000-point milestone in Northwest's 76-73 road victory over Rogers State, becoming just the 30th Bearcat to do so. Kesten leads the team with 316 points this season (14.4 PPG), bringing her career total to 1,014.
RANKED FOES AT BEARCAT ARENA
Northwest has won just once in its last 10 matchups against ranked opponents at Bearcat Arena. The Bearcats' lone victory came on Feb. 3, 2024, with a 69-55 win over No. 15 Fort Hays State.
NEED TO WIN ON HOME HARDWOOD
Despite facing the toughest strength of schedule in the nation, Northwest has recorded just two home wins this season (2-4), marking its lowest total since the 1999-2001 stretch (2-10). The Bearcats have two home games this week, with two more slated for Feb. 27 and March 1.
MIAA ANNOUNCES INITIAL KPI SEEDING
The MIAA released its first edition for the conference tournament, using KPI for seeding purposes. Northwest comes in at No. 10 with a -.031 conference KPI.
OUT-REBOUNDING THE OPPOSITION
Northwest boasts a 9-1 record this season when out-rebounding opposing teams. The Bearcats' only loss came against Central Oklahoma on Feb. 6.
KESTEN HAS THE GREEN LIGHT
Caely Kesten ranks fourth-best three-point shooter at a 47.9% shooting percentage - leading the MIAA. Kesten has tallied the league's third-most three-pointers with 58 this season, No. 23 in Div. II.
HARTNETT SCRATCHES NEW CAREER-HIGH IN KEARNEY

Molly Hartnett posted a career-high 28 points in a 71-64 loss to Nebraska-Kearney last Thursday. Hartnett shot 8-of-14 from the field and an impressive 10-of-11 from the free-throw line during her 35 minutes on the court. She has now recorded double-digit scoring performances in four consecutive games.
Hartnett matched her career-high 28 points on 11-of-18 shooting from the floor and perfect from the charity stripe (4-of-4), in a win against Central Missouri on Jan. 25. Hartnett has matched this career-high performance in the Bearcats' last two contests.
MAAS COLLECTS DOUBLE-DOUBLE VS. GRACELAND

Sadie Maas played a pivotal role in Northwest's win over Graceland, posting a 12-point, 11-rebound double-double in a 85-54 victory.
Maas is the first freshman to record a double-double since her current teammate,
Kelsey Fields, accomplished it in 2022 with 10 points and 10 rebounds against Lincoln.
'CATS SHOOT LIGHTS OUT VS. UCM
Northwest shot a blistering 54.7% from the floor - new season-high - Jan. 25 matchup against Central Missouri. Along with the field goal percentage, the Bearcats converted on 42.9% from deep and only missed one free throw (11-of-12).
INAUGURAL WIN AGAINST TOP-RANKED OPPONENT IN PROGRAM HISTORY
Northwest made history on Saturday by defeating the reigning Division II national champions and top-ranked Minnesota State, 85-67, in its final game of the Central Region WBB Showcase. This victory marked Northwest's first-ever win over a No. 1-ranked team in program history.
Northwest handed Minnesota State its first loss since Feb. 17, 2024, and its largest margin of defeat since Jan. 11, 2020, against Southwest Minnesota State. Northwest led for nearly 30 minutes of game time, keeping Minnesota State's only lead in the first half.

ADDITION OF COACH TUCKER
Head coach
Austin Meyer announced the addition of assistant coach
Daryle Tucker to the Bearcat staff in June. Tucker previously spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska. Before that, he served as the head men's basketball coach at Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vermont, for three seasons, and later at Northland College.
Tucker replaces former Bearcat assistant coach Chris Guess, who accepted a position as an assistant coach at the University of South Dakota.

Under Meyer, Northwest boasts an impressive 20-2 record when limiting opponents to under 50 points. Last season, the Bearcats successfully held six opponents below that threshold, along with No. 5 Ashland and MSU Moorhead this season. Austin Meyer took the reigns of the Bearcat program during the 2018-19 season and has been to the MIAA Championships five-out-of-seven times in his tenure. Meyer has accumulated a record of a 3-4 all-time record.
Last season, Northwest earned the No. 2 seed at the MIAA Championships, which is the highest seed that Northwest has gotten during the Meyer era.
