MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State indoor track and field teams began the 2025-26 season strong with 10 all-time top-10 school record book performances and eight NCAA Division II provisional nods.
Campbell Barta,
Krysta Abel,
Jaurdin Mallory, and
Hallie Henfling were standouts in the women's 60-meter-dash, with each breaking into the top ten in the school record book.
Frank Sparks received two NCAA provisional recognitions with his men's 60-meter hurdle qualifying time and his men's long jump distance.
Aziz Mohammed also shined with an NCAA provisional time in the men's 3000-meter run and the fourth-best mark in school history.
Running Events
(W) 60-meter Dash: Five Bearcats competed in the event, four qualified for finals. Sophomore
Campbell Barta recorded the fastest qualifying time of 7.54 – giving her the third-fastest time in Northwest history.
Jaurdin Mallory set the third fastest qualifying time of 7.62 – sixth fastest in school history.
In the finals, Barta improved her qualifying time, placing first, claiming a Division II provisional time of 7.49 – giving her the third-fastest time in Northwest history. Next up was
Krysta Abel in third place at 7.60 – fifth-fastest in school history. Abel also secured a Division II provisional time. Right behind Abel was Mallory in fourth place at 7.63. Finishing it out for the Cats' was
Hallie Henfling in sixth place at 7.70 – tying her for the 10th fastest time in school history.
(M) 60-meter Hurdles: Two Bearcats competed in the event, one qualified for finals. Sophomore
Frank Sparks placed third, but he earned a Division II provisional time of 8.13 in the qualifying round.
In the finals, Sparks took third overall with a time of 8.31.
(M) 200m Dash: Junior
Xavier Horn placed 14th overall with a time of 22.61.
Unattached runner
Kyle Emerson placed second with a time of 21.78.
(W) 200-meter Dash:
Jaurdin Mallory secured fourth with a time of 25.50. Following close behind was
Hallie Henfling with a time of 25.62, setting a new personal best.
Courtney Kiley placed 11th, crossing the finish line at 26.27.
(W) 300-meter Dash: Unattached runner
Addie Budig finished third, clocking in a time of 44.33.
(W) 400-meter Dash:
Melanie Roland finished first for the Cats' with a time of 54.45. Just a little over a second behind was
Kennedi Cline with a time of 55.98, securing second place. Both Roland and Cline earned a Division II provisional time. Roland's time is the best time in the nation.
(M) 600-yard Run:
Christian Lanphier claimed second place, clocking in at 1:11.63 – giving him the ninth-fastest time in Northwest history. Both
Bret Beard (1:12.71) and
Jess Cornick (1:12.93) finished in the top five, placing fourth and fifth respectively. Cornick set a new personal best.
Jack Beard finished in 12th with a time of 1:15.79 and
Andres Kemper finished with a time of 1:16.05, placing 13th.
Unattached freshman
Josh Fraker (1:11.00) and
Breck Brown (1:13.16) finished first and sixth respectively. Had Fraker been an attached runner he would've set the fifth-fastest time in school history.
(W) 600-yard Run:
Marie Dea,
Kendall Tietjen, and
Jadyn Barnes went 1, 2, and 3 in the event. Dea clocked in a time of 1:25.46, Tietjen with a time of 1:26.55, and Barnes earning a time of 1:27.08.
(M) 3,000-meter Run: Senior
Aziz Mohammed earned second place, claiming a Division II provisional time of 8.09.39 – giving him the fourth-fastest time in Northwest history.
(M) 4x400-meter Relay:

Christian Lanphier completed the 4x400M relay sweep with a first-place finish, crossing the line at 3:18.03.
(W) 4x400-meter Relay: Northwest's first 4x400M relay team consisting of

Kennedi Cline claimed first place with a Division II provisional time of 3:46.22 - giving them the tenth-fastest time in Northwest history.
Northwest's second 4x400M relay team consisting of

Kendall Tietjen,
Krysta Abel,
Melanie Roland placed third with a time of 3:55.47.
Field Events
(M) Long Jump: Three sophomores competed in the men's long jump competition.
Frank Sparks took third and earned his second Division II provisional nod of the meet, with a jump of 7.21m (23-08.00).
Jonathan Hedrick placed 13th with a jump of 6.45 meters (21-02.00), and
David Parker II jumped 6.38 meters (20-11.25), placing 22nd. Hendrick set a new personal best.
(W) Long Jump: Sophomore
Anjelena Carder took 16th place out of 41 athletes, leaping 5.14m (16-10.50).
(M) Shot Put: Sophomore
Demarii Williams placed 4th with a throw of 16.30m (53-05.75), giving him a new personal best.
Unattached freshman
Ethan Gaschler (16.96 meters), Ty Smith (16.18 meters), and
Dustin Wurtz (15.96 meters) placed third, fifth, and sixth respectively. Had Gaschler been an attached thrower he would've set the sixth-best shot put in Northwest history.
(M) Triple Jump: Sophomore
David Parker II secured a first-place finish with a jump of 14.26 meters (46-09.50), setting a new personal best. Sophomore
Jonathan Hedrick also set a personal best, with a jump of 13.42 meters (44-00.50), earning him seventh place.
(M) Weight Throw: Junior
Josh Shelly placed 6th with a throw of 17.15 meters (56-03.25) – giving him the sixth-best weight throw in Northwest history. Sophomore
Demarii Williams set a new personal best, launching 14.67 meters (48-01.75), giving him 20th.
Unattached thrower Ty Smith placed first with a throw of 18.67 meters (61-3.00). Had Smith been an attached thrower he would've set the best weight throw in Northwest history.
(W) Weight Throw:
Alli Poage secured fifth place overall, with a throw of 15.30 meters (50-02.50) – giving her the tenth-best weight throw in Northwest history.
Margherita Sala set a new personal best, with a throw of 13.78m (45-02.50), earning her 13th.
