Myers, Edwards receive MIAA football athlete of the week honors

The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association has announced new football athletes of the week from the 10th week of the 2025 season, presented by FieldTurf.

Northwest Missouri State University's Dominic Myers (Offense) and Carter Edwards (Defense) along with Pittsburg State's Austin Schmitt (Special Teams) were honored with the MIAA's weekly football honors.

Dominic Myers racked up 208 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns (two rushing, one receiving) in leading the Bearcats to a 41-14 road triumph over the Hornets.

Myers totaled 100 rushing yards on 14 carries (his second 100-yard game this season), grabbed a team-best eight receptions for 62 yards, two punt returns for 24 yards and one kickoff return for 18 yards.

Myers set up Northwest's first scoring drive of the game with a 24-yard punt return. On Northwest's next possession, Myers scampered 25 yards for a rushing touchdown to give Northwest a 14-7 lead. Myers bumped the lead to 21-7 when he tallied a five-yard touchdown run with 9:27 left in the third quarter for a 21-7 cushion. Myers out-leaped a Hornet defender and high-pointed a 31-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Chris Ruhnke with 4:00 left in the third quarter to boost Northwest's lead to 34-7.

Carter Edwards stacked up the stat sheet in Saturday's 41-14 road win over Emporia State. Edwards logged five tackles, 2.5 tackles-for-loss, 2.5 quarterback sacks, a forced fumble and an interception return for 21 yards. It is the second time in Edwards's career he has been named the MIAA Defensive Player of the Week.

His forced fumble broke up a fake field goal by the Hornets that easily would have resulted in a touchdown in the second quarter. However, Edwards knocked the ball loose as ESU holder Darby Roper rose to pass the ball. It was the second sack on the ESU possession by Edwards. On second and goal from the nine, Edwards registered a 16-yard sack of Jamison Sarver to move the ball back to the 24-yard line. Two plays later, Edwards notched the sack on the fake field goal. Edwards's third quarter interception and 21-yard return set the Bearcats up at the three-yard line for a short touchdown drive that put Northwest up 28-7 with 9:08 left in the third quarter.

Edwards and the Bearcat defense held its third straight opponent to less than 200 yards of offense by limiting ESU to 181 total yards and 10 first down. ESU was held to it lowest passing output (71 yards) since the 2015 season.

It's the third straight week Edwards and the Northwest defensive unit has held an opponent to less than 100 yards passing. FHSU passed for 87 yards, UNK threw for 39 yards and ESU passed for 71 yards.
