MARYVILLE, Mo. - The No. 19-ranked Washburn Ichabods earned a 2-0 victory over the Northwest Missouri State University women's soccer team with two second-half goals Friday at the Bearcat Pitch.
The first half began with both teams testing the waters, as the Bearcats and Ichabods aimed to gain control early.
Lily Ellis stood firm in goal, making a crucial save against Kate Hinck in the fifth minute, maintaining the scoreline.
Lillie Shaw created a significant opportunity for the Bearcats in the 14th minute, but her attempt was saved by the Ichabods' goalkeeper, Lili Everley.
As the half progressed, the Bearcats continued to press forward, with
Julia Coacher taking a shot in the 26th minute, though it did not find the target. Despite several fouls and set pieces, neither side managed to break the deadlock, concluding the first half with a score of 0-0.
The second half began with a strong defensive effort from the Bearcats, as Ellis made critical saves against the Ichabods' early attempts, including a key stop in the 54th minute. Despite Ellis's efforts, the Ichabods broke through in the 66th minute with a goal by Jules Wardlaw, putting the Bearcats behind.
Continuing to press, the Ichabods extended their lead with a second goal by Mackinly Rohn in the 77th minute. The Bearcats maintained defensive pressure throughout, with Ellis adding more saves late in the half, but the home team could not close the gap. The half concluded with a 2-0 deficit for the Bearcats.
Ellis recorded four saves while facing 14 shots during 90 minutes of play. Coacher contributed offensively with one shot. Shaw registered one shot on goal out of her total shot attempts. These players were among those who stood out in the match.
Northwest Missouri State will travel to Emporia, Kan., to take on Emporia State on Sunday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m.
