ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State University women's golf team began competition Monday at the MWSU Women's Holiday Inn Express Invitational, hosted at the St. Joseph Country Club. The Bearcats carded a first-round team score of 324, finishing the day tied for eighth place in a 19-team field.
Junior Clara Peake led the way for Northwest, sinking four birdies in her opening round on holes 1, 12, 14, and 17. Peake closed the day with a 78 (+6), the team's low round
Freshman Shaylee Ficken and senior Lexi Bartley each turned in rounds of 81 (+9). Ficken tallied her lone birdie on the par-4 12th hole, while Bartley posted three birdies on holes 5, 11, and 18
Two Bearcats competed individually, highlighted by standout moments from both. Kayla Moline carded birdies on holes 3 and 12, while Delaney Medlyn notched an eagle on the par-5 sixth hole
Northwest will return to the course Tuesday morning for the final round, scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. as the Bearcats look to climb the leaderboard and close out the fall event on a strong note.
