BRULE, Neb. – Northwest Missouri State University senior women's golfer
Madilyne Schlaepfer gained her second career individual title after firing a second-round 73 to tie for the crown at the Battle at Bayside.
Â
Schlaepfer started on hole No. 6. Through 11 holes, she was sitting at four-over par on the day. Schlaepfer then birdied No. 17 and captured another birdie on No. 1. After a bogey at No. 3, Schlaepfer rebounded with a birdie at No. 4 to move into a tie for the lead when Nebraska-Kearney's Calie Dockter scored a double-bogey on the same fourth hole for a three-shot swing. Schlaepfer and Dockter each got a par on the final hole – the par-3 fifth. The medalist honor was decided in a sudden-death playoff, when Dockter holed a 40-footer for birdie on No. 10. Schlaepfer's 20-foot birdie attempt did not fall.
Â
Schlaepfer is the third Bearcat to have multiple first-place finishes in tournaments. Cassie Lowell holds the school mark with eight first-place efforts. Steph Charteris captured four tournament crows from 2011-2013. Schlaepfer won her first title at the 2023 Drury Panther Invitational.
Â
Schlaepfer's final round 73 tied for the best round of the day. She was also the only participant in the 49-player field to not post a double bogey or higher in Tuesday's final round.
Â
The Bearcats recorded a second-place team finish at the Battle at Bayside.
Â
The Bearcats had two golfers gain top-10 finishes with Schlaepfer (T1st) and
Paige Hoffman (10th). For Hoffman, it was the 18th career top-10 finish. Hoffman is tied for the third-most top-10 finishes in program history. Schlaepfer tallied her sixth career top-10 finish and first this season.
