Hughey to run Saturday at Music City Track Carnival

Northwest Missouri State University track sprinter Tiffany Hughey will take part in the 22nd Annual Music City Track Carnival Saturday at the Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

The 11-time NCAA Div. II All-America performer and four-time national champion from Lee's Summit, Mo., will compete in the 400m event as she looks to gain an Automatic standard qualification for the 2024 United States Olympic Trials. The "A" standard time is 51.20. All athletes who have met the Automatic standards will be qualified for the 2024 US Olympic Team Trials, regardless of field size. If the desired field size is not achieved with Automatic qualifiers, fields will be filled to the target field size, while still respecting minimum entry standards.

Hughey's fastest 400m time of the year (52.03) came as she captured the 400-meter crown at the 2024 NCAA Div. II national championship meet in Emporia, Kan., on May 25. Her time at the NCAA Championships bested the initial qualifying time of 52.50. The U.S. Olympic Trials will take up to 35 competitors for three rounds of 400-meter qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

The 2024 U.S. Track & Field Olympic Trials are set for June 21-30 at Hayfield Field in Eugene, Ore. The 400-meter qualifications will take place on June 21-23.

Another former Bearcat sprinter Hiba Saeed (Hiba Mahgoub) will also be running in Nashville this weekend. Saeed will compete in both the women's 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash. Saeed ran top times of 23.46 in the 200m and 53.37 in the 400m at the John McDonnell Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., on April 14.
