Hughey Crowned National Champion; Men's 4x400M Relay Smashes Facility Record En Route to Title

EMPORIA, Kan. -- Northwest Missouri State University topped the podium on Championship Saturday, as Tiffany Hughey took the 400M dash crown and the men's 4x400M Relay team capped the 2024 Outdoor season by claiming a title of their own. 

As a team, the Northwest women scored 22 points to place 11th, as the Bearcat men piled up 17.5 points in 15th place. 

Javelin (W): Luisarys Toledo placed fifth nationally with a new personal best and new school record throw of 49.10 meters (161-01) on her second attempt in the preliminary round. Toledo held the previous school record of 46.74 meters (153-04). 

Toledo takes home First Team All-American status with her performance today.

4x100M Relay (M): Dominic Sedlacek, Joel Dos Santos, Gavyn Monday, and Enrico Cavagna ran a blistering time of 39.70 seconds to claim third in the nation. This team's best time this season sits as the school record of 39.60 seconds back on May 10, 2024. 

Sedlacek, Dos Santos, Monday, and Cavagna received first-team All-American status with their performance in today's event.

400-meter Dash (W): Tiffany Hughey took home the national title in the event with a new personal-best time of 52.03 seconds, which tops her previous school record time (52.07) and now ranks 12th-best on the Div. II all-time performance list. 

With Hughey's performance in the 400M dash, she swept both the 2024 Indoor and Outdoor seasons in the event and earned First Team All-American status.

4x400M Relay national champions4x400M Relay (M): The team of Prince Griffin, Gavyn Monday, Logan Arellano, and Truman Hare wasted no time in the event as they smashed the Welch Stadium record with a national title time of 3:06.41. Hare brought home the hardware in the race with a 45.16 split time. This quartet of athletes has the Northwest record of 3:06.32 set on May 11 this season. With their performance today, they earned a first-team All-American accolade in the event. Danny Jantzen ran in the prelims to earn All-America honors as well.

4x400M Relay (W): Chloe Saenz, Luisarys Toledo, Kaylee Harp, and Tiffany Hughey cemented a new school record time of 3:33.23 to finish second nationally. The team's effort in the event gives them a first-team All-American honor.
