Northwest sends 19 National Qualifiers to 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

The Northwest Missouri State University track and field teams will send 19 athletes to compete at the 2024 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held from Thursday, May 23 - Saturday, May 25 in Emporia, Kan. 

The Northwest women will have five athletes competing, as the Northwest men will send 11 athletes along with three additional competitors. A total of 377 student-athletes per gender qualified based on regular-season performances. Qualifying marks from Thursday, Feb. 15 to Sunday, May 12 were taken into consideration.

The Bearcat track and field team is led by sixth-year head coach Brandon Masters

Bearcat Women's National Qualifiers
Tiffany Hughey (Lee's Summit, Mo.)
: Hughey dominated the 400-meter dash, setting a new Northwest record with a time of 52.07 seconds, the second-fastest in Division II this season. She will also be a leg of the 4x400 Meter Relay team. Hughey's 52.07 ranks as the 13th-best all-time Div. II performance.

Lydia McGlocklin (Olathe, Kan.): McGlocklin achieved a personal best in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:09.10 at the Concordia Twilight, ranking fourth in Bearcat history and 20th in Division II.

Chloe Saenz (Kansas City, Mo.): Saenz qualified for the 400-meter dash with a season-best 54.43 seconds, placing her 25th in Division II. She will also compete in the 4x400 Meter Relay.

Luisarys Toledo (Valencia, Venezuela): Toledo earned spots in four events: the 400-meter hurdles (59.89 seconds, 14th in Division II), long jump (6.13 meters, 10th in Division II), javelin (46.74 meters, 12th in Division II), and the 4x400 Meter Relay.

4x400 Meter Relay: The team of Saenz, Toledo, Kaylee Harp (Harrisonville, Mo.), and Hughey boasts the third-fastest time in Division II this season with 3:37.78, ranking fifth on Northwest's record board.

Bearcat Men's National Qualifiers:
Prince Griffin (Independence, Mo.):
 Griffin will compete in the 400-meter dash with a time of 46.69 seconds, ranking 14th in Division II. He is also part of the 4x400 Meter Relay team.

Blake Morgan (Kirksville, Mo.): Morgan qualified in the high jump with a mark of 2.14 meters, placing him 12th in Division II.

Reece Smith (Garner, Iowa): Smith aims to secure his third consecutive national title in the 3000-meter Steeplechase, where he is currently ranked sixth with a time of 8:47.82.

Maxime Touron (St. Adams de Pellagal, France): Touron earned his first outdoor national bid with a school record 1:49.48 in the 800-meter run, ranking 13th in Division II.

Riley Witt (Osage, Iowa): Witt joins Touron in the 800-meter run, ranking 15th in Division II with a personal best of 1:49.57.

4x100 Meter Relay: The squad of Dominic Sedlacek (Gretna, Neb.), Joel Dos Santos (Buenos Aires, Argentina), Gavyn Monday (Independence, Mo.), and Enrico Cavagna (Trento, Italy) set a Northwest record with a time of 39.60, the second-fastest in Division II this season. The 4x100 team's time ranks tied for the 17th-best mark in NCAA Div. II history.

4x400 Meter Relay: Griffin, Monday, Logan Arellano (Kearney, Mo.), and Truman Hare (Liberty, Mo.) broke a 1984 school record with a time of 3:06.33 at the Loper Twilight, as they sit as the fastest time in Div. II. The 4x400 team's time ranks as the 13th-best mark in NCAA Div. II history.
