HAYS, Kan. -- The Northwest Missouri State University baseball team dropped its final game with the Fort Hays State University Tigers, 13-4.
Northwest's record fell to 17-20 overall and 9-14 in the MIAA, while Fort Hays improved to 21-16 overall and 9-14 in conference action.Â
The Tigers took control early with one run on two hits in the home half of the first.
In the third, Fort Hays added four more after an RBI double and a three-run shot to make it 5-0 after three.Â
Northwest's first hit came in the fourth inning, a double from
Alex Bowers. This was quickly followed by a run from
Trey Morris and  Bowers, narrowing the gap to three. However, the Tigers swiftly responded, extending their lead to 8-2.Â
Jacob Selock hit his third homer in three days to lead off the fifth. Selock's solo shot brought the score to 8-3, favoring the Tigers.Â
Bowers made it a four-run game in the sixth after scoring
Kaehukai Young on a groundout to shortstop. Fort Hays took control in the bottom half with five runs on six hits, giving a 13-4 cushion after six complete.Â
Northwest wasn't able to claw its way back in the final frame as Fort Hays State took the series finale, 13-4.Â
Fisher (2-2) took the loss.Â
The Bearcats are back in action on Tuesday, April 9, for a matchup with Washburn in Topeka, Kan. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
