Bearcats take home four event titles at Gorilla Classic

PITTSBURG, Kan.--The Northwest Missouri State University track and field teams had four athletes crowned event winners at the 16th Annual David Suenram Gorilla Classic on Saturday. 

Field Events:
Long jump (W): Luisarys Toledo started the day with a first-place finish in the women's long jump. Toledo secured the crown with a leap of 6.13 meters (20-01.25).

Long jump (M): Drew Beachler finished fifth with a leap of 7.09 meters (23-03.25). 

Javelin (W): Addison Long took 19th place with a throw of 34.65 meters (113-08.00). 

High jump (M): Blake Morgan tied for seventh in the men's high jump. Morgan's final mark was 1.99 meters (6-06.25). Jeremiah Rainey-Dunlap tied for 13th with a final mark of 1.89 meters (6-02.50).

Discus (W): Alli Poage placed 21st with a throw of 36.41 meters (119-05.00). 

Running Events:
4x100m Relay (W): The quartet of Reese Brown, Hallie Henfling, Grace Hill, and Jaurdin Mallory placed eighth with a final time of 49.05. 

1500m run (M): Three Bearcats competed in the men's 1500 meter run. Grayson Tapp led the trio with a 10th-place finish, crossing the finish line in 4:04.84. Cooper Greenslade crossed the line at 4:07.61, finishing in 13th. Alex Jackson took 24th with a time of 4:13.25. 

1500m run (W): Mayson Hartley placed fifth with a final time of 4:47.97. Bree Mauro also finished in the top 10, with a ninth-place finish, crossing the finish line in 4:53.36. 

400m dash (M): Four Bearcats competed in the men's 400-meter dash. Gavyn Monday led the charge with a fifth-place finish, crossing the line in 49.51. Zach Pittman finished in 50.36, placing tenth. Jacey Hutson took 14th place with a time of 50.69. Christian Lanphier placed 18th with a final time of 50.77. 

400m dash (W): Tiffany Hughey continued her dominance with a crown in the women's 400-meter dash. Hughey posted a provisional time of 53.54 and won the event by over three seconds. Federica Lega came in third place with a time of 58.51. 

800m run (W): All three Bearcat participants finished in the top three in the women's 800-meter run. Kaylee Harp took the event crown with a time of 2:15.42. Bailey Blake took third with a time of 2:17.41. Kaitlyn Mlnarik crossed the finish line in 2:21.72, placing sixth. 

100m dash (W): Lexie Gilbert posted a provisional time of 11.74, taking fourth place in the event. 

400m H (M): Matt Goeckel placed 15th with a time of 59.29. 

400m H (W): Jaedy Commins took the crown in the women's 400-meter hurdles with a provisional time of 1:02.26. 

200m dash (M): Gavyn Monday placed 26th with a time of 21.89. Xavier Horn crossed the finish line in 22.03, putting him 31st. 

200m dash (W): Hughey notched her second provisional time today in the women's 200-meter dash. Hughey placed second with a time of 23.70. Lexie Gilbert posted a provisional time of 24.10 in fifth place. Jaurdin Mallory crossed the line in 25.55, placing 26th. Reese Brown placed 38th, posting a time of 26.41. 

The Bearcat track and field teams will compete at the Midwest Classic in Emporia, Kan., and the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif., on Thursday, April 11-Saturday, April 13.
