Morris's two-homer night lifts Northwest over Rockhurst, 4-0

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Northwest Missouri State University baseball team blanked the Rockhurst University Hawks, 4-0, in its non-conference midweek matchup.

Northwest improves to 20-26 overall, as Rockhurst falls to 24-18.

Six Bearcat pitchers were used to combine for a four-hit shutout. Trey Morris led the Bearcat offense going 3-for-4 with two homers while driving in all four runs for Northwest.

Ryan Williams got the action started with a double to the right-center gap to record Northwest's first hit of the night. Trey Morris quickly drove in Williams with a single to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead. Bearcat starter Andrew Clark dealt in the bottom half of the first to keep Rockhurst scoreless after one complete.

Connor Polli came in to relieve Clark in the fourth. Clark didn't allow a hit in three innings while recording a strikeout.

The game was quiet in the middle innings until Morris brought in his second and third RBI of the game with a two-run homer to left to give the 'Cats a 3-0 lead in the sixth.

Morris's big night didn't end in the ninth as he launched his second homer of the game, eleventh of the season, to eventually seal the game for Northwest, 4-0.

Clark (1-5) earned the win. Polli logged two innings, four hits, and a strikeout. Brock Steggall, Jayme Fritts, Jake Ciafullo, and Ben Haug closed out the remaining four innings without allowing a hit.

Sam Wornson, Evan Tocmo, Jake Emhardt, Williams, and Morris all tallied hits for the Bearcat offense.

With a win tonight, Northwest sweeps Rockhurst in its two-game season series.

Morris's four RBI night inches closer to Northwest's single-season RBI record. Morris currently sits second with 61 RBI, only trailing Rob Czanstkowski (1989) with 66.

Northwest will next hit the road to Edmond, Okla., for a three-game weekend MIAA series with the University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. on Friday, April 26.
