MARYVILLE, Mo. -- The Northwest Missouri State University baseball team dropped its series finale matchup with the Newman University Jets, 13-7.
Northwest falls to 17-25 overall and 9-18 in the MIAA. Newman improves to 13-29 overall and 9-18 in conference action.Â
The Jets put a two-spot on the board in the top half of the second to lead 2-0.
Brady Miles made it a 2-1 game in the bottom half after a solo shot to left center.Â
Newman would add another run in the third to take a 3-1 lead. Bearcat starter
George Fisher was relieved by
Brock Steggall with one out. The Jets scratched three runs on two hits to take a 5-1 lead.Â
Trey Morris singled home
Cole Slibowski on an RBI single to left to make it a 5-2 ballgame in the bottom half of the third.
Ryan Williams would score on a wild pitch to add another run to cut the deficit to two. Miles tacked on another RBI after he singled home Morris to cap off a three-run, four-hit bottom half.Â
Alex Bowers tied the game at five after Slibowski provided an SAC bunt, allowing Bowers to ground out and drive in a run.
Jacob Selock scored on another wild pitch to give the Cats the 6-5 lead after four.Â
Sam Wornson led off the fifth with a double and later scored by an error on a failed pick-off attempt to bring the score to 7-5, Bearcats.Â
Connor Polli entered the game for Steggall in the seventh. Polli could not get out of the inning as
Jake Ciafullo came in to pitch.Â
The Newman bats woke up as they poured on five runs in the eighth before
Jacob Gajic entered for Ciafullo with the 'Cats trailing 10-7. The Jets added three more to put up an eight-spot in the eighth to lead 13-7.Â
The Newman Jets completed the series sweep against Northwest with a 13-7 win in game three.
Miles led the Bearcat offense going 4-for-5 from the plate with a homer and two RBI.Â
Ciafullo (2-3) took the loss.Â
Northwest will return to its home field to take on the Northeastern State University Rivherhawks starting on Friday, April 19. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
