13 event champions; seven meet records totaled at Midwest Classic, Leopard Distance Carnival

The Northwest Missouri State University outdoor track and field squads combined for 13 event champions and seven meet records at the Midwest Classic and the Leopard Distance Carnival on Friday. 

Midwest Classic
Heptathlon: Anna Gladstone brought home the Heptathlon crown with 4,400 points. Gladstone placed third in the long jump with a leap of 5.15 meters, first in the javelin with a throw of 31.31 meters, and third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:35.26. 

Shelby Butterfield jumped up a spot from yesterday to finish in third place with 4,168 points. Butterfield took second place in the long jump with a leap of 5.16 meters, third in the javelin with a throw of 29.43, and first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:30.87. 

Running Events:
3000M Steeplechase (M): Northwest went one and two in the event. Alex Jackson took the crown, finishing with a time of 9.40.60. Cooper Greenslade came in second place with a time of 9:45.77. 

4x100M Relay (M): The quartet of Dominic Sedlacek, Joel Dos Santos, Zac Anderson, and Enrico Cavagna captured a new Midwest Classic meet record with a provisional time of 40.63. The team's time now ranks No. 4 in Bearcat history. 

1500-meter run (W): Four Bearcats finished the event consecutively. Mayson Hartley took first place with a time of 4:44.00. Kaitlyn Mlnarik came in second with a time of 4:45.50. Breelie Mauro claimed third place with a final time of 4:47.85. Shelby Harris rounded off the quartet of Bearcats in fourth place with a time of 4:53.87. 

1500-meter run (M): Grayson Tapp placed fifth, crossing the line at 3:55.31. Dillon Grover came in 20th place with a time of 4:15.22, as Ethan Easter placed 24th with a time of 4:22.09.

400-meter dash (W): Chloe Saenz produced another Midwest Classic meet record for Northwest in the event. Saenz's time of 54.69 took home the crown and qualified as a provisional mark. Jadyn Barnes came in second place with a time of 56.43. Federica Lega placed sixth with a time of 58.49. 

400-meter dash (M): Prince Griffin tallied another crown for Northwest as he finished with a time of 46.49, a Midwest Classic meet record, a new personal best time, and now sits No. 3 in Bearcat history. Gavyn Monday placed fourth with a time of 48.39. Mason Swaney (49.79) and Chrstian Lanphier (49.83) finished in the eighth and ninth spots. 

800-meter run (W): Kaylee Harp produced a Midwest Classic meet record with a provisional time of 2:09.79. Bailey Blake came in third with a time of 2:18.24. 

100-meter H (W): Hannah Hatzenbuhler took second place, crossing the line at 14.99. 

100-meter dash (W): Lexie Gilbert took the crown in the event, crossing the finish line at 11.90. Jaurdin Mallory (12.36) and Kyah Luhring (12.61) placed seventh and eighth. 

100-meter dash (M): Dos Santos placed second with a provisional time of 10.38. Cavagna came in third place, also with a provisional time of 10.40.

400-meter H (W): Jaedy Commins secured second place after crossing the line at a provisional time of 1:01.47. 

400-meter H (M): Danny Jantzen posted a provisional time of 52.63, placing second in the event. Zach Pittman placed 11th with a time of 59.26. Matt Goeckel crossed the line at 1:02.59, placing 13th. 

200-meter dash (W): Gilbert took another event title in the women's 200-meter dash with a provisional time of 24.12. Saenz, just behind Gilbert, took second place with a time of 24.42. Mallory also placed in the top five, crossing the line at 25.23 in fifth. Reese Brown took tenth, finishing in 26.28. 

200-meter dash (M): Cavagna claimed a crown in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.25. 

4x400M Relay (W): Northwest's team of Bailey Blake, Jaedy Commins, Federica Lega, and Kaylee Harp posted a Midwest Classic meet record with a time of 3:49.79. 

4x400M Relay (M): The quartet of Prince Griffin, Joel Dos Santos, Danny Jantzen, and Gavyn Monday also posted a Midwest Classic meet record with a provisional time of 3:11.19. 

Northwest's 'B' team of Xavier Horn, Jacey Hutson, Zach Pittman, and Christian Lanphier placed third with a time of 3:16.06. 

Field Events:
High Jump (M): Blake Morgan placed third with a provisional height of 2.10 meters (6-10.75). 

Long Jump (W): Grace Hill took second place in the long jump with a leap of 5.22 meters (17-01.50). 

Shot put (W): Quinn Weakley claimed fifth place with a final throw of 12.32 (40-05.00). 

The Northwest men placed fourth as a team with 100 points, as the women placed second with 139 points.

Bryan Clay Invitational
800-meter run (W): Lydia McGlocklin placed 16th with a time of 2:09.71. McGlocklin's time now sits at No. 5 in Bearcat history in the event. Alyna Thibault crossed the line at 2:13.95. 

10K run (M): Tyler Blay placed 29th with a final time of 30:40.24. 

Leopard Distance Carnival
3000M Steeplechase (M): Reece Smith scorched the Leopard Distance Carnival record with a time of 8:47.82. Smith currently has the all-time Bearcat record of 8:33.64 (5/27/22).

3000M Steeplechase (W): Whitney Post claimed seventh place with a time of 10:54.30, a new personal best time in the event, which also ranks No. 4 in Bearcat history. Post's previous best time was 11:17.56. Taylor McCreedy placed 12th with a new personal best time of 11:02.76, which sits No. 5 in Bearcat history. McCreedy's previous best time was 11:17.45. 

Northwest's outdoor track and field squads will wrap up weekend action tomorrow on the final day of the Bryan Clay Invitational.
