Streigle tosses gem; Bearcats settle for split with Griffons

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State University softball team had to settle for a doubleheader split with the Missouri Western Griffons Friday afternoon in MIAA play.

The Bearcats captured the opener behind a five-hit shutout from Jadyn Streigle. However, the MWSU held Northwest to two hits in the second game and scored a 5-0 win to earn a split.

Northwest is 20-22 overall and 9-9 in MIAA play. MWSU is 25-15 overall and 9-9 in league action.

GAME ONE
Streigle pitched her eighth complete game of the season and struck out three as she stymied the Griffon bats with a timely changeup.

Streigle did not walk a batter in moving to 8-8 on the season.

Lauren Gray singled home Lillie Filger in the first and then knocked in Filger again in the third to account for both of Northwest's runs batted in. Annie Gahan scored on a passed ball in the fifth for the final run of the game.

Filger went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Gray tallied a two-hit, two RBI day as she also patrolled left field.

GAME TWO
The second contest belonged to the Griffons behind the pitching of Natalie Kissinger. Kissinger hurled a two-hit shutout as she struck out four and walked one.

The Griffons scored all five of their runs in the fifth as they chased Bearcat starter Hayden Simmons in the process. Simmons allowed four hits and four runs before being relieved in the fifth with no outs. Breck Dickey faced four batters out of the bullpen and she allowed one hit and walked three before she was removed. Olivia Moyer got the final nine outs as she tossed no-hit ball over the last three innings.

Simmons falls to 5-2 on the season. She struck out five Griffon batters.

Lillie Filger and Abby Nolte recorded Northwest's two hits in the contest.

Northwest will return to the Bearcat Softball Field next Friday and Saturday when it plays host to Pittsburg State and Missouri Southern.
