Gladstone second, Butterfield fourth through day one at Midwest Classic

The Northwest Missouri State outdoor track and field teams concluded the opening day of the Midwest Classic and the Bryan Clay Invitational. 

Midwest Classic
Heptathlon: Two Bearcats are competing in the Heptathlon. Anna Gladstone sits in second place with 2,710 points through four events. Shelby Butterfield currently sits fourth with 2,417 points. 

Gladstone's performance was stellar, securing first place in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.53, third place in the high jump with a height of 1.49m, fourth place in the shot put with a distance of 9.24m, and third place in the 200m dash with a time of 26.96. 

Two spots behind Gladstone, Butterfield placed fourth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.83, sixth in the high jump with a final mark of 1.46m, fifth in the shot put with a throw of 8.85m, and fifth in the 200m dash with a time of 27.74. 

The Heptathlon will resume tomorrow with the long jump at 10 a.m. Field events will begin at 11:30 a.m., as running events are scheduled to start at 1 p.m.

Bryan Clay Invitational
10K run (M): In the last event of the night, Drew Atkins placed fourth with a new personal record of 29:30.23. Atkins now sits at No. 2 all-time in Bearcat history. 

Leopard Distance Carnival
The women's 4x800 will be the day's first event, starting at 3:40 p.m. (Friday)

Northwest will continue action on Friday at three different meets: Midwest Classic, Bryan Clay Invitational, and the Leopard Distance Carnival.
