PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Northwest Missouri State University baseball team took a 10-0 loss in the second game of its series against the Pittsburg State University Gorillas.
Pittsburg State improves to 12-5 overall and 3-2 in MIAA, as Northwest drops to 8-9 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
Six Bearcats tallied hits in today's setback.
Northwest had something brewing in the top half with a
Caden Diel single.
Trey Morris roped a single through the left side, but Diel was thrown out at home to keep the 'Cats scoreless in the top half. Pittsburg State then struck three runs on four hits in the bottom half of the first inning.
A quiet third inning for the Bearcats, as the Gorillas tacked on another run with a solo-shot to lead 4-0.
Northwest had runners on the corners in the sixth, but Pittsburg State was able to get out of it on a double play, keeping the score at 4-0. Bearcat starter
Casey Stalzer started getting into the groove, striking out the side in the bottom half. Stalzer had eight strikeouts heading into the seventh.
Stalzer's day was done after giving up his second homer of the afternoon, as Sophomore
Connor Polli came in. Pittsburg State managed to scratch across four runs without recording an out. The Gorillas capped off a 10-0 win in seven innings after a two-run shot by Nixon Brennan.
Stalzer (2-2) took the loss.
Next up, Northwest will return for the final game of the series tomorrow at noon.
