Cameron downs Northwest, 9-0

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Northwest Missouri State University softball squad came up on the short end of a 9-0 five-inning decision to the Cameron University Aggies at the Mustang Round Up.

Northwest fell to 3-4 on the season, while Cameron moved to 1-0 in its first contest of the spring.

Cameron dented the scoreboard initially with a sac fly in the second. The Aggies loaded the bases off three straight walks to begin the inning from Bearcat starter Breck Dickey.

The Aggies put up an eight-spot in the bottom of the third that was capped by a three-run inside the park homer by Savannah Pemberton. Pemberton's hit was Cameron's sixth of the inning and gave the Aggies a 9-0 lead through three innings.

Northwest managed a pair of singles in the fourth inning from Alexis Brown and Skylar Pieper, but could not score a run in the run-ruled shortened game.

Lillie Filger saw her 14-game hitting streak snapped as she went 0-for-3 against the Aggies. Filger grounded out to the pitcher in the first and third, before ending the game with a groundout to third.

Dickey was tagged with the loss as she saw her season mark dip to 1-2.

The Bearcats will be back in action Saturday against Southwestern Oklahoma State (11 a.m.) and Cameron (1:15 p.m.).
