Hornets gain series win with 14-10 triumph Sunday over 'Cats

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State University baseball team dropped the rubber match of the MIAA-opening weekend series with the Emporia State University Hornets, 14-10.

ESU moved to 9-6 overall and 2-1 in MIAA action, while Northwest dropped to 7-7 overall and 1-2 in league play.

Senior Noah Bodenhausen had a four-hit day with three extra-base hits and senior Jacob Selock drove in five runs on four hits in the setback.

Bodenhausen collected his 10th multi-hit game of his career and seventh of the season. He walked in the second then tallied his first double of the game in the third. He singled in the fifth and then ripped an RBI double in the seventh. Bodenhausen tripled with one out in the ninth for his fourth hit of the game. Bodenhausen is hitting a team-best .400 this season with 20 hits in 50 at bats.

Selock crushed a three-run homer in the second to give the Bearcats their only lead of the game at 3-2. He followed with singles in the fourth, seventh and ninth innings for his eighth career multi-hit game. Selock set a career-high with five RBI as he had a two-run single in the seventh to go along with his three-run homer. It was Selock's third homer of the season and eighth of his Bearcat career.

Junior Max Pawela tallied two hits including his first home run of the season. Pawela hit a solo blast in the fourth for his fourth collegiate home run of his career. It was the second two-hit game of the season for Pawela.

The batters in the sixth through ninth spots in the Bearcat order tallied 11 of their 15 hits, eight of their 10 runs and eight RBI.

It is the sixth time this season the Bearcats have scored 10 or more runs in a game. Northwest is 5-1 in games in which it scores 10 or more runs this year.

Northwest will travel to Benedictine on Tuesday for a 2 p.m. game in Atchison, Kan. Northwest will then head to Pittsburg State for a weekend series beginning Friday in Pittsburg, Kan.
