ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State University women's and men's tennis teams capped a busy Friday by scoring their second dual wins of the day with triumphs over MSU Denver at the Genesis Indoor Courts.
The Bearcat women and men are each 4-0 on the season.
WOMEN
The Bearcat women picked up their second win of the day with a 4-0 shutout of MSU Denver.
The doubles action was closely contested as the Bearcats were able to edge the Roadrunners in three tight sets.
Sofia Pignataro and
Carolina Oliveira gained a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles.
Tessa Kwakernaak and
Angela per Moreno earned a 6-3 victory at No. 2 doubles. Northwest's No. 3 doubles tandem of
Marielena Muench and
Laura Prieto Sieiro withstood the Roadrunner pair of Kambra Roles and Hanna Haber, 7-6 (8-6).
The bottom half of the Bearcat order took care of business in singles action. Muench, Prieto Sieiro and per Moreno each tallied straight sets wins at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles to clinch the 4-0 dual win.
MEN
The Northwest men bounced back from a 1-0 deficit in doubles to score a 4-1 victory over MSU Denver.
The Roadrunners tallied wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to take a 1-0 lead. Northwest's No. 3 doubles team of
Mason Meier and
Martin Sanchez picked up a 6-1 win. The No. 2 doubles match was a nip-and-tuck affair as MSU Denver's Alejandro Jimenez and Jeanloup Auzias edged Northwest's
Michael Delebois and
Rafal Bednarczuk in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-4).
Of the four singles matches that were completed, Northwest was able to secure four victories. No. 1
Andrea Zamurri captured a 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) win over Auzias.
Fillippo Piranomonte also earned a straight-sets triumph at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 7-5.
Newcomer
Rafal Bednarczuk went the distance at No. 4 singles to tally a 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-4) win over MSU Denver's Marco Jalalian.
Michael Delebois came up with a clutch 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (11-9) victory at No. 3 singles over Jimenez to help clinch the 4-1 dual win.
